I teach in Hinesville actually, but I did graduate from Windsor Forest High in '92. Since you are 24, you might know my little sister whom graduated in '95.....won't give her name here, but you can email me at Avaly@att.net if you are interested.

And why not?
i know three of my previous professors who were also roleplayers.
In fact, its more difficult to find old guys playing RPG in the old Europe than in US but there are still some old players in England.

That'd be wired if one of my teacher posted on this forum

Thanks so much for that link Bookwyrm. Tons of info there. I'll have to check there before asking anymore stupid question from now on.

Well, basically everyone had along, hard look at themselves and decided that Anti-WotC posts and Drizzt v. Elminster posts were getting boring. There's been an upswing of creativity, stuff from Eric, Ed and Scott Bennie (of FR10 Old Empires fame) and just a generally nicer feel to the List.

I never heard of such thing
Bookwyrm Posted - 13 Apr 2003 : 16:35:23
Really? Can you elaborate, or is that classified?
George Krashos Posted - 13 Apr 2003 : 16:31:08
Yep, I mean the REALMS-L which is going through something of a renaissance lately.

Maybe he means REALMS-L?

What do you mean by "the FR List"?
Mournblade Posted - 13 Apr 2003 : 05:11:09
Excellent George! Thanks for the info!

George Krashos Posted - 13 Apr 2003 : 03:33:07
The research I did for FR products (and I can't speak for others) was research within the Forgotten Realms. The lead designer on any product always had a 'vision' of what he wanted it to be and we'd see a draft or outline. Our job was then usually to pick up errors, suggest material and help with brainstorming.

Our role would also vary depending on the designer and the product. For example: with Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide to the Underdark, I literally combed through every single FR product for any references to Underdark places, races, people, magic etc. I then grouped them by Underdark race (i.e. drow, duergar, kuo toa etc.) and Eric did with them what he wanted. The important thing was to be as inclusive as possible, tie-in FR scattered references and not make any blunders.:)

My role for FRCS was quite different. Basically we got drafts of the finished product and had to do fact-checking. I took it upon myself to also give suggestions/feedback re some of the creative decisions but these weren't acknowledged. Some of my historical work did get included and if you read p.266-267 the write-ups for Phalorm and the Kingdom of Man are my prose.

Essentially, if you are asked to help out on an FR product you do what is required. Designers like Steven Schend and Eric Boyd like to bounce ideas off trusted 'loremasters' and use the feedback to create a finished, polished product. Other designers just want help re fact checking and realmslore. For example, I gave Sean Reynolds all the elusive FR references for Telflamm when he was writing up the Shadowmasters for Cloak & Dagger - and specifically noted the fact that Telflamm has the largest temple to Mask in all Faerun: that seemed to spur his creative juices to running with that link. It turned out well.

Mind you, you never catch everything. I look at some products I've worked on and see errors, omissions that I wish I'd picked up. But no-one is perfect and the Realms can be a very nasty, living breathing entity.:)

As to how I was made "Chosen" to do such work, all I can say is that after being very active on the FR List over a period of years, I got asked by Eric Boyd to work on a research product and then started receiving e-mails from Ed, Steven, Elaine, et. al. Before the wonders of the Internet that would have been impossible as I live in Australia, but thanks to technology I can help out when needed. My advice is to be knowledgable, helpful and creative re the Realms and anyone can be approached to help out. It does happen - I'm living proof.

Thanks for asking.

Research means studying or investigating. When you research something, you are trying to discover things about it.

zemd Posted - 13 Apr 2003 : 00:30:02
er... again my english is not good enough! By research do you mean inventing or making it up?
Mournblade Posted - 12 Apr 2003 : 17:07:51
George I am very interested in how you got research credit for some of these projects. Like Empire of the Sands (which is an excellent product), did you research real world CULTURE, HISTORY, and MYTH, or did you research within the scope of the published material from TSR?
Obviously alot of work goes into these products. How much of it is real world research, and how much is sifting through Realms material?

George Krashos Posted - 11 Apr 2003 : 13:28:31
Well, I got a research credit for Empires of the Shining Sea and Demi-human Deities, a thank you in Sea of Fallen Stars, Secrets of the Magister, Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide to the Underdark, and FRCS. They forgot to mention my input to Cloak & Dagger, Races of Faerun and Faiths & Pantheons, but I got a nice dedication (with many others) by Ed in the revised version of Spellfire.

As for non-official projects, I've worked with Eric Boyd to nut out the history of the Fallen Kingdom, and then gone on to create an entire, consolidated historical timeline of the North (some of which appeared in his Eye of Myrkul DUNGEON adventure), am currently thrashing out Impiltur to flesh out some of the material from my "Soargar's Legacy" article in Dragon #277, and am working with others on a complete lineage of the rulers of Cormyr.

Hmm...reading the above sounds all too arrogant and bragging. I stress that I don't do it for the kudos (although it can be nice - and Ed is ever-generous) but to make the Realms a better place. What I usually aim to do with most of my work is fill in holes, fix problems, resolve tensions and just generally make it "all good". Something we should all be striving for with respect to our affection for the Realms.

I'm 32 years old, started playing D&D in High School but haven't gamed in over a decade. I fell in love with the Realms through Ed's Dragon articles and since then have become somewhat of a FR junkie.

I've been fortunate to do work on several FR products, continue to to work 'behind the scenes', am writing an FR article for DRAGON and live, breath and sleep the Realms (except for periods of when life, work or my wife intervene).

No, I just happened to be the first. Doesn't mean I'm more clever than others here.

Besides, I'm pretty familiar with the basics of his research. I've had to argue with a lot of people who think Darwin was the Antichrist.

(And before I get anrgy emails, I'm a devout Catholic, and I don't have any problem reconciling the Bible and modern scientific theories. Neither, for that matter, does one of my professors. And he's not only a professional astrophysicist, he's also a Baptist deacon.)
Mournblade Posted - 10 Apr 2003 : 23:34:24
Excellent! Bookwyrm proves to be the cleverest here for he was the first one to figure out this most basic reference from 7th grade biology texts. Huzah! Bookwyrm, well done!
Bookwyrm Posted - 10 Apr 2003 : 06:05:51
Unless I'm mistaken, he's thinking he's clever () by refering to the famous Charles Darwin, of naturalist fame.

I've only just been shown the FR novels; I've always been a fantasy lover, but the quality of these! They are amazing; I'm working on the Dark Elf Trilogy so far; does anyone have any suggestions on what I should pick up next?
Mournblade Posted - 10 Apr 2003 : 00:17:39
Oh and Darwin....

Did you get that name from sailing with Deudermont when he was but a sailor. Hmmmmm.... I think the name of the vessel was the Beagle. H.M.S. Beagle! THat was it!
Mournblade Posted - 10 Apr 2003 : 00:15:51
Lets see Darkwalker on Moonshae is a great place to start. That is actually the first trilogy. THen you can move on to the Druidhome trilogy. The realms books are much like comics. It is easy to figure out what is going on, and if you find yourself in the middle, you can always go back and figure it out.

And Darwin I really didn't find anything offensive. You were expressing opinion, like many others here do.

Probably me at 46 Summers young.

I've Been reading FR books for as long as I can remember, (you tend to forget such things at my age), but still haven't managed to read all of them. I've lost track of which ones I've read, I used to be able to remember more by the covers than the titles but I can't do that any more now that they're being re-released with different covers. Favourite author has to be Salvatore.

I've been playing/DMing for around 28 years - 1st edition (Basic, Expert, Immortal etc) and 2nd edition. I've played in Greyhawk, Dark Sun, Ravenloft, Dragonlance, Mystara, Planescape and of course The Realms. Always DM in the Realms now but with the occasional trip to other places (The Infinite Staircase is a wonderful invention).

I don't get anywhere near enough time for D&D these days. Work and studying tend to get in the way of reality
