Posted - 01 Jul 2005 : 09:38:34 Greetings everyone, I had been doing some research into the Harpers and I found out they were once allied with a group called the Heralds. Does anyone know who these Heralds are, what do they do and what agenda they pursue and why did they split away from the Harpers? Thanks to any who read and reply to this topic. |

Check out Ed's 2e Code of the Harpers tome. It covers the Heralds in the traditional Ed Greenwood fashion -- that is, plenty of Realmslore.
Ed has also given a good description and additional information on the Heralds here in Candlekeep. It might be easiest to find it from Kuje31's files. |

More information about the High Herald and Herald's Holdfast could be found in Salvatore's "Streams of Silver".
Right, thanks for the tip, now time to dig into the book for information. |

I heard that the Heralds are led by five leaders called High Heralds. One is quite well known to most folk but in terms of title only not name, he is called Old Night. He orders and organizes the heraldry of the Realms. His home is in the Savage Frontier in a hidden fortress known as the Herald's Holdfast.
Then who are the remaining four leaders?
I think I know one of the leader's, one of them was also called Black Vizor. But a secretive leader this one is. |

Posted - 01 Jul 2005 : 10:17:35 Thanks, Shadovar, for replying to the topic. So, are there any leaders among the Heralds? Are their leaders known to all like Manshoon so widely known in the Realms or are they secretive about their identities like the Masked Lords of Waterdeep? |

Posted - 01 Jul 2005 : 09:48:10 Heralds? Well they are a actuallu a group of historians and arbitrators who were previously allied with the Harpers but separated from them when the Harpers tendency towards good became unbalancing to the Heralds even-handed interest in justice. The Heralds were nominally established to organize the heraldry of the Realms and record the arms of its noble families. Also, Heralds strive for neutrality to the point of stasis, attempting to maintain the current order as opposed to extending it further in new conquests. They may advise their lords freely, and can be on opposing sides of a conflict and still maintain their impartiality. Heralds have in the past served as regents for underaged kings and queens, but are forbidden from holding onto that power once a suitable heir is found and from leading attacks directly against other Heralds. |
