I'm wondering if it's possible to fuse weapons (spear+hammer) or create your own weapons (four-bladed scythes). If so, how do you use it in-game? Especially if you're dealing with a mad paladin who literally plays hammerthrow in battle or a rogue who wants to dual wield double bladed daggers.

That would be a flail - with a rather large business end ;)

For more exotic weapons, like a spear hammer, compare them to whats in the PHB. For example, a spear hammer would be very similar to the Dwarven Urgosh (spear axe) or Gnome Hooked Hammer (pick hammer).

Or try checking out a Lucerne Hammer. Polearm/Hammer. Lots of variants.

I agree also that more blades DOES NOT equal more attacks. There is just a limit to what you can do in a given time frame. Yeah it may be cool to think about what you could do with a different weapon, but in order to achieve more damage you would have to sacrifice something. (Damage would be reduced to give way for speed as you try and work every iteration of an attack, AC would suffer as you focused on ONLY damage, weapons could torque and warp if you struck improperly as often happens when you rush... etc.)

Two Bladed Sword is an exotic weapon, effectively two longswords, but equal to two longswords in price plus seventy gold pieces.

Dwarven Urgosh is an exotic weapon, effectively a battleaxe and a halfspear, but equal in price to the sum of those two weapons' prices plus 39 gold pieces.

I'd say that, with a double weapon, add the two weapons' prices together, then multiply by three for the overall price.

Another thing: The PHB says very explicitly that you need two hands to use both blades of a double weapon. This keeps the game in balance. If this weren't the case, fighters would overpower mages/sorcerers at the lower levels especially.

So, in my idea, he could dual wield double daggers, but only get to use one blade with each weapon. The would each cost 12 gp and be either medium simple weapons or small exotic weapons (your choice). However, you could make a feat up where you can dual wield two bladed weapons, but with an additional -2 penalty to attacks, a prerequisite being Ambidexterity and Two Weapon Fighting feats. So, if you're dual wielding two bladed medium weapons with all three feats, you'd get four attacks, all at -6 penalties. If they were small weapons, the attacks would be at -4 penalties.

For more exotic weapons, like a spear hammer, compare them to whats in the PHB. For example, a spear hammer would be very similar to the Dwarven Urgosh (spear axe) or Gnome Hooked Hammer (pick hammer).

Not to insert too mugh reality into it, but I don't think those Double-daggers would allow much change in function simply because you can't really double up with the underhand attacks. (Which is what you make with the blade along the forearm.) Slashing yourself is really secondary to being able to get in close enough to be effective. However, there is a definite defensive advantage to using this method of attack as you can block with your forearm-blade and put the strength of your shoulders behind it.

Now, if you look at the other hybreds you speak of, they would be either nearly impossible to wield, or in many cases, a duplication of an existing polearm or Exotic weapon. I'd advise research into some of the more common martial arts weapons. If possible look through the 2d ed "Oriental Adventures".

Thanks for the input.

Well, according to the player's description of it, the hilt has enough space for only one hand to grasp, with a one foot blade potruding from either side of the it. So, it's like dual wielding normal daggers, but you have to watch that you don't hurt yourself with an extra pair of blades that's pointing back at you.

Exotic Weapon Proficiency!

As for getting the weapon, I'd personally charge base price for normal item, plus 1/2 price per extra blade.
For instance: A normal Scythe runs for 18 gold. A 4-bladed scythe would run about 45 gold. (18 +9 +9 +9)

Rhezarnos, if I remember correctly, Complete Warrior has a section on weapons and unique ones like you are talking about.
