Posted - 16 Jan 2003 : 23:41:26 Okay, I have just one more tiff with the folks at WOTC about the proununciation of names and then I shall fall silent on the subject...uhm...for a bit...
I simply refuse to call the almighty goddess of the woods, whose holy name strikes fear into the hearts of every Malar-ite and orc, whose benevolence in the forest is unparallelled, smiter of the heathen tree defilers by the name oh so silly-sounding name My-LEE-kee. Ugh, could there be a less flattering name? I think that if Mielikki actually thought about it, she'd change it.
I have always, and SHALL always refer to her as Mee-leh-KAI. I think that it sounds much more appropriate.
Anyone agree/disagree? |

Ehm, hasn't this topic been covered already in another - older - thread?

Ah-hah... here they are.
<blows some dust of two scrolls...>
On this scroll and on that one some of the scribes have poured their thoughts.
tip: the "Search" function helps to look for older scrolls with information. |

Posted - 17 Jan 2003 : 14:44:08 Thats funny I had always pronounced Faerun as Fair-un. It's just how my mind read it the first time I saw it. Just like Drizzt. I pronounce it as Drizt but I remember in one of the books when he first came out of the underdark for good and some human girl pronounced it as Drizzit.
I think it is up to how you want to say the word really. |

Posted - 17 Jan 2003 : 08:54:47 I agree with you ArionElenim. Id actually always pronounced it this way by seeing the name first off years ago before I saw any official pronounciation guide and things like that stick! I still cant get used to pronouncing Faerun as FAY-ROON despite the caret over the 'u'!! FAY-RUN just stuck with me |

I think I like the My-LEE-kee pronunciation better, but that's just MHO. Now that I think of it, though, your pronunciation sounds cool, too... |
