Posted - 10 May 2005 : 16:11:12 As this particular scribe has been reviewing the records of a world known as "the Marvel Universe" it occurs to me that I may have found a new angle on one Manshoon in our own universe.
For those of you unfamiliar with the "Marvel Universe", Doctor Doom has a host of androids that look just like him, and whenever Doom is not around, the android is actually programmed to think that it is indeed the real Doctor Doom, and as such, many times heroes have fought Doom they actually have been fighting one of the "Doombots."
This got me to thinking. What if Manshoon hasn't died all that often. What if Manshoon created a variation of the Stasis Clone that allows him to have one clone active while he is alive, and if the MAIN clone dies, it triggers another stasis clone. Manshoon has access to all their thoughts and can scry them at will, and no one has seen the REAL Manshoon for a very long time.
Part of the spell would be that the clones always think that the Stasis Clone spell works the way everyone assumes that it does, i.e. that the REAL person is active, and when they die the next one wakes up.
I would still venture to say that Manshoon's vampire clone is beyond his reach now, and that there was still a mysterious mishap that caused all of the Stasis Clones to awake at once, but none of them knew the actual truth of the matter. Manshoon just sat back and watched the chaos rather than play his hand.
I guess this theory appeals to me becuase it shows Manshoon more on top of things than 1e and 2e sources showed him. He is actually sitting back, waiting for when to strike if he wants to, quietly researching spells and magic items in private as his stasis clone play politics for him.
But I don't think Manshoon refers to himself in the third person. |

Posted - 18 Jan 2007 : 08:28:35 maybe there ultimate objective is to kill off all the Drizzt clones! There's got to be a couple million of them by now.... |

Posted - 16 Jan 2007 : 04:13:49 Manshoon was killed and eaten by a Deepspawn. The Deepspawn continues to produce Manshoon clones which explains all of the Manshoons clones in existence simultaenously without breaking any game rules and any other chanracter could do the same thing.
The real question is what is the Deepspawn mastermind's true intention for all these Manshoon clones...I figure it is to capture and eat Elminster the ultimate Deepspawn main course... |

I never got that Clone Wizards were something ANY wizard used as a means of immortality.

Posted - 14 Jan 2007 : 05:22:04 Yes, its been awhile since this thread was visited, but a thought just occured to me with some of the conjecture going on about Manshoon and the Manshoon wars and what not.
Okay, take my original idea as fact for a moment. Manshoon actually created a clone of himself that was active while he was alive, and when it wasn't around Manshoon, it beleived that it WAS Manshoon.
This is the Manshoon that has been kicking around the Realms for years, and has been killed a few times and HIS stasis clones have woken up and worked the same way that the original did.
Now, think about this. What if the Manshoon clone that Manshoon had been using as him for years stumbled onto something. What if he was getting TOO good at being Manshoon? Or was getting too close to figuring out that HE was a clone of Manshoon?
What if Manshoon (the real one, who in this theory, has never died) decided that his clone was getting too ambitious, or was getting too close to revealing some plot that the real Manshoon was working on? Then the real Manshoon, though various means, manipulates Fzoul into deciding to kill Manshoon (v 3.1 or whatever he was at that point), and then, as Fzoul manages to kill Manshoon (the clone) with the real Manshoon's help (unbeknownst to him), Manshoon then activates all the clones at once, on purpose.
This causes a major mess, and keeps not only Fzoul, but the Harpers and other groups busy with the ramifications, and makes it nearly impossible to actually scry Manshoon (the real one) with all of the "interfereance" going on. While Fzoul and the Harpers are busy dealing with the Manshoon Wars, Manshoon himself is covering up whatever his clone nearly uncovered, or perhaps even setting in motion something else that he couldn't set in motion if anyone was paying attention to him or his clones.
His cover up or set up finished, Manshoon slips away, sets up whatever he wants his various clones to remember or think, and goes back to his behind the scenes work. In fact, the clones may not be as much of a pain to manage now, because they all know they are clones, and have a harder time seeing themselves as the "real" Manshoon, but they also beleive that there is no "real" Manshoon anymore, and so still serve the same purpose as before.
Whatever Manshoon is working on in the shadows is fairly easy to hide, because as we found out in "Tears so White" Manshoon is one of the only mages in Toril that can hide in those little pockets of the Weave, meaning he has a great hiding place and means of transport that isn't available to the everyday wizard (and perhaps the real test is if the clone Manshoon know that they should be able to do this or not . . . I would suspect that they don't know that this is an ability that Manshoon has). |

Posted - 11 May 2005 : 03:34:24 Hm lets see . . . half elemental templates for the half earth elemental and the half fire elemental, there would just have to be a half invisible stalker template and a half . . . mimic?
(Wonders if this thread was as bad an idea as the duck thread)
(and I was so proud of myself for catching THOs attention . . . ) |

Posted - 11 May 2005 : 03:09:44 Whoa! ... I just had a strange idea for a Realms storyline set in the future...
Manshoon: 2099 DR. Whether it is AFTER he takes over a major nation and establishes his own dominion... is another matter entirely .

Posted - 11 May 2005 : 02:46:32 It wasn't new even then, Dargoth dear. Several ancient Roman emperors did it, so did Alexander the Great, some of the Hellenic rulers, at least one Khan . . . and then came the Borgias and their neighbours. (I'm referring to the "have many hired or loyal staff or dupes doubles posing as you to draw fire" tactic.) love, THO |

Posted - 11 May 2005 : 02:43:33 Actually, Doctor Doom, as an "idea" had been floating around in the fertile mind of Stan Lee since the late 1950's.
As for the Doom/Manshoon connection... I doubt we'll ever see Manshoon "adopt" a young orphaned Dalelands boy named Vernard and then, upon the untimely "death" of Manshoon, the young boy will be forced to undergo a strange arcane process that will see him mentally re-programmed with the memories of Manshoon.
If we follow Marvel tradition, then this Vernard Manshoon will likely join with the Harpers for a time, like the Vernard Doom did when he joined with the Fantastic Four.

Posted - 11 May 2005 : 02:28:40 Id say Marvel probably swiped the idea from the James Bond movie Diamonds are Forever (circa 1960)the leader of Spectre had a whole a bunch of people made up who looked like him. (As I recall Bond finally got him in the opening scenes of For your eyes only where he drops him down the smoke stack of a factory) |

Posted - 11 May 2005 : 02:27:28 May I point out that what I conjecture here is nothing but a mere bard's fancy . . . in fact, I'm quite sure I heard it from some bard traveling through on the way to Baldur's Gate . . . yes . . . quite sure . . .
And I never intend to set one foot out of Candlekeep again . . . |

Posted - 11 May 2005 : 02:21:28 Oh, KnightErrantJR! (Sob!) I'll miss you! It's SO tragic when scribes stumble upon secrets that will mean their destruction. Manshoon's probably watching you right now. 'Tis not his way to slaughter speedily, so . . . Enjoy the Realms, brave and far too clever knight, savouring each day as if it is your last - - because Manshoon watches, and one day it will be.
Sob. Love, THO |
