Posted - 05 Apr 2005 : 23:49:39 As some of you may know, I am wanting to write a short story and possibly get it published. I checked out Dragon Magizine's short story area and it is really hard to get it published in there. I was wondering what other places would be a good place to break into the writing industry. Thanks! |

Thanks Rupert. Yeah I am going to end up posting it for the world to see. Maybe as Realmslore or something.
I have never heard of the Evermeet Sourcebook.
Edit: Okay I managed to secure a copy of the evermeet sourcebook today. Thank you for referring me to it. IT is very enjoyable.
Cormanthyr: Empire of Elves is useful as well. :) Elminster in Myth Drannor and the Evermeet novel also. |

see I need someplace that takes FR stories. It saves the hassle of creating an entire world for me. I just have to cretae little bits. Like the village for my character in my Destruction of the Grove story. Just need a name for it. This is a map when he is little so he knows it as The Village I guess. Just as he knows the river as The River, and the forest as The Forest and the grove as The Grove lol.
In that case, you have to go thru Wizards -- anyone else publishing their legal property would be cause for the lawyers to come crawling out of the woodwork. Dragon Magazine (if they've resumed accepting fiction from unknowns) would be your best bet. Or you could keep an eye out for one of their periodic cattle calls.
Alternatively, you could put it here or on another site that hosts fan fiction. It wouldn't have the WotC stamp on it, it'd not count as canon, and you'd not get paid, but you would at least share your story with others.

Also, does anyone have any information on elven culture from Faerun? Like customs for the elven children. Like the Drow they have to be trained all mannerisms until they are 10 and etc.
Are you familiar with the Evermeet sourcebook? |

Posted - 06 Apr 2005 : 01:33:18 I've struggled with this a bit also. :) Which is why I enjoy Candlekeep. Yes I don't get paid and its unofficial fan created work but I love adding to FR's lore. As I mentioned earlier, some of us were also working on a PDF for Alaundo that would contain fan short stories.
As for professional stories, have you tried any of the fantasy magazines out there? Head to a book store or two or three and browse the magazines. :) I'm sure you can find a couple...... Realms of Fantasy for instance. But they won't take FR tales, obviously. |
