Posted - 12 Mar 2005 : 17:16:47 As I recall, the official line now on why Karsus cast his spell is because the people were beginning to get antsy. The phaerimmm were causing problems, and then Ioulaum decided to bail on Netheril.... Karsus was trying to avert a panic. |

Posted - 12 Mar 2005 : 14:58:14 Well thnx for your opinions :) Here is the info that i've gathered:I'm fairly certain that when the 2nd set of nether scrolls was stolen, they were en route to Karsus from Ioulaum. I'd say they were pretty friendly to lend each other an artifact like that... Also i know that Karsus had the power to cast his spell (Karsus' Avatar). Perhaps Ioulaum did too. But, Karsus had the drive to cast it and gain so much power, where as Ioulaum may have known the risks of casting it. The two would have respected each other, but Karsus would have seen Ioulaum as not gutsy enough to strive for such great power, whereas Ioulaum would have seen Karsus as too ready to take great risks for power.

Posted - 12 Mar 2005 : 06:03:37 I could be wrong because I'm at work and my LEoF isn't at hand, but I thought Karsus only cast his Avatar because Ioulaum had disappeared and was feared dead. I thought it was a desperation move by Karsus to turn the tides of war. |

Posted - 12 Mar 2005 : 00:38:29 Hmm... Karsus did respect Ioulaum, but I thought they were rivals because of their great powers. Wasn't this one of the reasons why Karsus went off to start his own enclave? |

Posted - 11 Mar 2005 : 23:56:15 I'm not even sure if they mentioned anything concerning their relationship in the Netheril Trilogy.Isn't it true though, that they were fighting it out at the end of the trilogy? |

Welcome to Candlekeep.
Unfortunately, the only information we have on the relationship of Karsus and Ioulaum is a few sketchy references in the "Netheril" boxed set. It's clear that Karsus respected Ioulaum, for he only cast his 'Karsus' ?vatar' after Ioulaum's disappearance.
Basically however, there is no information on your query so you are free to make it up!
