In Faiths & Pantheons, Bane is presented as god of Strife, hatred, tyranny, and fear(also in FRCB). But, as we all know, errata fixed that fact, giving a part of Bane's portfolio to Cyric. That complements the fact that Cyric's most loyal worshippers are Strifeleaders (PrC presented in F&P). BUT, in Player's Guide to Faerun, which is 3.5 supplement, they say that, I quote, Bane is after all, a god of Strife! If you would like, check the Chapter 6 of this book.
So, I would like to know who is the god of Strife?

Well... Thank you all for the posts. My question was kind of rhetorical. Yes, I know that Cyric is thee God of Strife, and just like Garen Thal had said, I believe that strife suits Cyric better. I was referring to the errors authors had made. In the original, published material Bane was presented as a God of Strife, not Cyric. They have changed that fact in the upcoming material, but, they have made the same error once again, in the Player's Guide to Faerun. And they were not speaking about the gods of strife, but about the God of Strife. That is why I capitalized strife. Just like you’ve said, Garen Thal, there are many gods of war, but there is only one god of War. Could it be possible that authors are not familiar with the material they are going to publish? |

I would tend to agree with you Senbar Flay. I imagine WotC did it not as a typo, but merely to create reason for story lines, and thus plots, subplots, intrigue and the rest of it. All of which is what we appreciate as being that which gives the realms such depth. I mean, if everything was just straightforward, it wouldn't seem as real, because it would be to neat and tidy and perfect. You need those complicated occurances to bring a depth of realism that can only be found by "mistakes" being made by those who inhabit the world.

I guess they needed it to go somewhere and and although strife is chaotic they could have given it to him because he would be resurectted and thus the exhcnages between Cyric Xvim and Bane could happen. |

In past, Bane was a god of Strife, Hatred and Tyranny. All of those portfolios went to Cyric after ToT. When Cyric was overthrown from the position of the god of Death, he lost Hatred and Tyranny in the process which Xvim took hold of after his release.
When Bane finally emerged from Xvim, he already had Hatred and Tyranny in hold. Strife was still with Cyric so Bane took the so far unclaimed portfolio of Fear to replace Strife. I figure Bane is quite happy with this arrangement since the Strife was the one reason his church/clergy had so much infighting in the past. Now it's Cyric's problem.

Cyric is god of strife. Strife is "Heated, often violent dissension; bitter conflict." One of its synonyms is discord. Strife is undoubtedly chaotic, which is why Lawful Evil Bane didn't get it back when he was raised from death, and needed Hatred to replace it.
This has been gone over several times at the WotC boards, and it would make no sense for an erroneous, out-of-hand reference to be taken as altering Bane or Cyric's portfolio. Several gods are worshipped as gods of war, including the Red Knight, Garagos, and even Tyr, but only Tempus is the god of war. Cyric is the god of Strife. |
