I DM for a NwN peristent world server (http://64.207.18.117/about.php) that is set in the same region as the Baldur's Gate (original BG/ToSC) computer game. This region includes

Baldur's Gate
Ulgoth's Beard
Cloak Wood
Friendly Arm
Wood of Sharp Teeth
Beregost
Ulcaster Ruins
High Hedge
Gullykin
Firewine Bridge
Durlag's Tower
Cragmyr Keep
Nashkel
a northern section of the Cloud Peak Mountains including Fang Pass, Mount Speartop, the Neck, Scarsiir’s Crag, and Citadel Amnur

and a trade route to Daggerford using Thundar's Ride and the Trade Way, which features

the Citadel of Strategic Militancy (Red War College)
Tempus' Tears
the Fields of the Dead
Boareskyr Bridge

We're aiming to make this server match up with canon lore in every detail that we can muster. If anyone knows of Forgotten Realms novels or Dragon Magazine articles that feature any of these areas, it would be greatly appreciated if you could list them. Thanks!

And I recall that there are some other novels that feature Baldur's Gate, and perhaps other areas I have listed above, but I'll be darned if I can remember their names. If anyone knows of them please fill me in. (And, as mentioned, if anyone can think of any Dragon Magazine articles that deal with these areas.) Many, many thanks again!

These are the canon BG novels.

Baldur’s Gate by Philip Athans
Baldur’s Gate II – Shadows of Amn by Philip Athans
Baldur’s Gate II – Throne of Bhaal by Drew Karpyshyn

Thanks for the responses everyone!

I have Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast, Volo's Guide to Baldur's Gate, Forgotten Realms Adventures, the original Forgotten Realms Campaign Set, 2nd and 3rd ed FRCSs, Dwarves Deep, and Gold and Glory (info on FF and other mercenary groups in the area).

I think that's it... If I have missed any other sources from boxed sets, etc., please advise.

Maybe there are books or articles specifically dealing with trade, or various power groups, to which this region might hold special significance?

And you might want to stop by the Questions for Ed Greenwood thread for some heavy lore on Ulgoth's Beard.

...and was the main reference used by the developers of Baldur's Gate. Volo's Guide to Baldur's Gate II covers parts of Amn and Tethyr (supplementing Lands of Intrigue), NOT Baldur's Gate.

More references: some Western Heartlands cities are written up in Forgotten Realms Adventures, which may have information not present in VGSC. Baldur's Gate: The Flaming Fist, see original Forgotten Realms Campaign Set. Durlag's Tower: FR11 Dwarves Deep p. 61. Cragmyr Keep: "Elminster’s Notebook: #1: Lord Kuldak Maurancz" (Dragon #200). FRE3 Waterdeep may have unique lore on Boareskyr Bridge.
