I was thinking about allowing a temple to offer minor magical blessings. These blessings would be a one-use and one-only orison, granted for a minor donation, roughly 30 gp. Would that be a fairly accurate price? And should there be an XP cost to the cleric giving the gift? Most people of decent means would likely have one, so I want to price it accordingly.

Basically, a cleric would cast this "blessing," imbuing a character with an orison. The subject of the blessing could cast that spell whenever s/he felt like it. An orison, in case anyone isn't sure, is a 0-level clerical spell. The difference between this and Imbue with Spell Ability is that the latter can be used to transfer higher-level spells, and the cleric casting it effectively loses those spell slots until the recipient uses up the spell granted.

That site looks interesting, but my idea was to make the blessing(for lack of a bettet term) work like the Imbue with Spell Ability spell, but only for an orison(any orison), and the cleric wouldn't lose a spell slot, instead costing some experience and/or money.

What sort of effects did you have in mind? Are you planning on creating your own spells?

Oh, okay then . I'll admit that I've been thinking about using something similar for my own FR games. I was simply content to use a "wait-and-see" approach about how it operated in an Eberron environment. Then, when I knew how the system worked, I'd start adapting it for Realms usage.

However, I'm starting to think more about this. Wasn't there a 2e FR product that had some details about temples offering minor magical blessings? Perhaps I'm thinking of another setting...

That sounds great, Sage. There's no rush; so far, it's just an idea.

Sourcemaster2, if you're willing to wait for several more days, the Eberron campaign setting is supposed to have a system which in effect, operates in much the same way as you've just outlined. My copy should be arriving soon, so if you want, I can look into the details for you and provide a summary for it's basic use in FR, here.

How's that...?

There was an article on deific intervention that I found somewhere; I think it was on the Wizards page. It covered pretty much exactly what you're saying.

Edit: Ah, here it is.

30 sounds reasonable to me. But that depends on the kind blessing he would cast I guess. As for XP cost I guess that would be appropriet as well.
