Ok, my players in their typical campaign altering impulsive fashion have decided to go on vacation.
The question is: Where?
A nice tropical locale, might be nice. OR a nice resort with with hot springs and spas.
How about it, if you were going on vacation in Faerūn, where would you want to go?
A Shaaran Safari? Big game hunting in the Wood of Wyrms? Knucklehead fishing in Icewind Dale?
What sounds good, and if you can make it sound like a travel brochure, all the better!

I would have to say that I would take a vacation on one of Kaladesh's beaches where the sand is warm and toasty, as opposed to the dank chilliness of the dungeons and such. The surf is nice, with crystal-clear waters that remind you of thin sapphire. Bonny lasses... No man could ever feel like they do not belong. Ah.. I could not think of a better place to while away the tedious hours onshore. |

atkhaltha and amn is great just don't forget the problems with pirates of Nelanther isles and the possiblity of an grand humanoid invasion that may strike from south.
These are the plots as far as I know of ht eyear we are in or so.
I don't know for sure but they may give some bigger ideas :))) |

Yeah, but being able to have it in your grubby mitts is better than reading it on your computer. Of course you could take it to kinkos or somewhere similar and have it bound, but that smacks of effort.

Though I appreciate them making old stuff available to more players, it is mildly irksome when I see a free download of something I paid cover price for.

Yes, athkatla might just be perfect. In fact I believe I will jack up Thirds of Purloined Vellum from Dungeon #88, to 16th level for something interesting to happen while they are there.
Now to track down info on Athkatla. Good thing I played BGII.
Where should I start, the lands of intrigue book? IT is one that an be downloaded from wizards, right? |

I think you are thinking of Lake Esmel in Amn (page 154 of FRCS).

Athkatla in Amn will also probably live up to this requirement. While I can't recall if there is a Thayan enclave there, I don't see why one couldn't be.

YEah, PDK I wwas kind of thinking that too...
I just somehow know it would end with the red wizard in my group burning down ancient forests in a fit of pique.
Due to the, shall we say, "less than savory" nature of my group somewhere a little out of the normal civilized regions might be best. Perhaps somewhere that the color of your coin means more than the color of your robes... |

Well, they have spent the last six months or so (out of game) in a dungeon that we are just now finishing up. In game they have spent close to a week underground, and close to a month before that in the wilderness.
They want a nice, civilized setting. Some sun, maybe some surf, perhaps a few winsome lasses. And of course an ale barrel to crawl in. I seem to remember somewhere I read about a place with natural mineral hot springs that sounded perfect. I am likely going to insert a nice spa resort on the lake of steam. The water might not smell too nice, but it might make for some excellent fishing, and doubtless there are some nice mineral baths there. |

Yes. I would have to say that Luiren would be the best long-stay vacation. Amazing food and entertainment, good people... imported beer straight from the Great Rift nearby, where you can go for a three-day jaunt to marvel at the impressive above-ground and underground dwarven architecture. No offense, but the elf theme would not be for me... I want to go somewhere with good food, beer, and comfortable/warm lodgings (don't want to shiver in a tree house, not being able to sleep with all the weird / fey noises coming from the forest... only to drag myself out of bed and somehow spend my day apologizing to nutcases with their hands constantly on their sword hilt / spell component pouch, waiting for you to "dishonor" them with your filthy "N'Tel'Quess" mouth. No. Not for me I say!  ) |

Why not a rural trip? First to the north part of Amn, to visit NAshkell and it's rural environment, then heading south to the nice hills of Imnesvalley, an exciting visit to the Underdark exit, and finally a relaxing walk through the Tethyr forest and, if you're lucky, maybe the elves there allow you to visit Suldanessalar.
That would be my ideal vacations.  |

I guess a lot of it would depend on what they are taking a vacation from.
If they've been roughing it a lot a big city and all it can offer can be a nice break. Waterdeep, Suzail, and Silverymoon might all make good get away spots for someone who's been out in the wild a lot.
If they've been spending their time in big towns and want a nice get away from that, perhaps it is time for a change of pace like the Moonshae islands.
For me personally, I love big cities, Silverymoon would probably be my first pick. If I were trying to get to somewhere a bit more rustic, Luiren would be a close second. Good food and lots of halflings to entertain me.

If they are a high enough Level why not send them "Dino Hunting in the Jungle's of Chult" or for the lower-level vacationers send them Deep Sea fishing along the Dragon coast and get attacked by Pirates that is always fun to see a PC try to fight pirates wearing Heavy Armor. |
