In the Player's Guide to the Forgotten Realms, Kelddath Ormlyr, priest of Lathander and governor of Baragost, is presented as a former "merchant of note, whose ships plied their trade up and down the Sword Coast". It also seemed that trade was an important subject to him, as Volo's Guide mentions that he personally "encouraged several important Amnian merchants to establish estates around Beregost" (the Baldur's Gate game also has one possible reaction of the priest of Nashkel mention that Kelddath came to see him to demand that he get the situation in the mine sorted). I find this interest in trade noteworthy, as he appears to have taken his position around the time that the Mirrorshades defeated the priest of Bhaal who was holding the fort that would become their inn, which not only made the Trade Way much safer, but also gave the road an additional stop that is perfectly located for caravans between Baldur's Gate and Amn. So as long as the temple of Lathander ensures nothing gets out of the ruins of Ulcaster, the whole region can prosper, and notably Beregost, which is now mostly known as a successful trading centre.

All this made me wonder whether Kelddath was a merchant who took over the temple in Beregost to make trade more secure, or a priest who cares about trade for the properity of the city he governs. I would have liked to know more about his transition from merchant to priest, but I couldn't find anything on his merchant company.

I finally understand why. From The Sword Never Sleeps:

"The other holy Knight wielded a swifter, sharper tongue and was hight Semoor Wolftooth. As was customary among priests of Lathander, he would later take another name, Jelde Asturien, as he rose in service to the Morninglord."

If Kelddath Ormlyr is not his birth name, I am wondering whether he comes from a well known merchant family. Of course, so close to Amn, the possibilities seem infinite. Is there a merchant family in the area with strong ties to the church of the Morning Lord?
