I had noticed years back that Elminster is on the back cover of this book. And aside from Captain Ginsu I thought the image was actually a great visual of the Forgotten Realms. It reminded me a bit of the 3E DM screen, it had one panel (again sadly with Ginsu) that had a half visible portal and some sort of lost ruin in the distance. I actually even liked the idea of El on the back cover sort of lurking always watching from behind the scenes.

Come to today. I want to use this cover art as reference material. Yet all the wallpaper images online lack Elminster?

Has anyone else noticed this? Would anyone have a copy with Elminster? Or better yet with Elminster but NOT the drow who shall not be named?

I remember the meaning of "Lord Ginsu"; however, whether said moniker is meant to be insulting, affectionate or merely neutral is still up in the air (for this geek, anyhow).

Neutral. I never was the fan that some are, and I got bored with the character a long time ago.

Ginsu?

Like the infomercial knives from the 80s.

Indeed. The commercials often made note of how a Ginsu knife cut foods remarkably well, even after doing things like cutting through a can, first. The fact that the blade "slices" and "dices" was given great emphasis.

So, since the character slices and dices and cuts through most anything... And slapping "Lord" on there emphasizes it and rounds out the nickname well.

There are probably a couple of people from high school that remember me less than fondly for the nicknames I dropped on them... And more than one person has been confused by me asking for a "scribblestick" when I needed to write something down.

As for the cover art, the artist was Todd Lockwood. I know he had the cover art on his website at one point, but that site is no longer active. I found the art on his page on Artstation, but it's also lacking Elminster -- which makes me wonder if Elminster was never part of the original art, and was slapped on after the fact.

You and I would get along just fine, I read "scribblestick" my mind went straight to pencil.

See I was thinking the same thing, maybe it was a last minute change or heaven forbid some other artist was told to slap it on. Just odd.

For the record, there's nothing wrong with naming the character. I just choose not to, for various reasons, not the least of which is that I came up with the Lord Ginsu nickname and find it amusing. I've had a habit, most of my life, of coming up with various nicknames for people and objects.
