Posted - 15 Jun 2021 : 22:52:14 I am working on making MC style pages for various monsters, including the various beholder types. When I got to the doomsphere I noticed that most sources I found said very little.
Of course, the old 2nd edition Ruins of Myth Drannor MC page was the best and most complete write-up. The 3rd Edition Monsters of Faerun entry was based directly on this.
However, the description of Doomspheres included in the I, Tyrant sourcebook was COMPLETELY different. Different stats, different natures, and most noticeably, a completely different set of eye powers.
I looked quickly here to see if anyone noticed this, and there was no reference, So I thought I would share.

Posted - 15 Jun 2021 : 22:58:40 I think I'll be combining them, (it doesn't seem right to get rid of death ray) and the slow and hold eyes are too similar anyways.
I also think it makes more sense that you cannot cut the eyes off a ghost :) so I will be going with that take as well.
Combining Disintegrate and Chill Ray (save vs. disintegrate and still get chilled) Replacing Slow with hold being (save and you are slowed as before) Replacing cause serious wounds with flesh sear Combining Telekinesis and undeath assault (which is basically a ring of the ram effect)
I also think I will replace the fear eye power with a fear aura, which is pretty much standard for many undead types. |
