I would like to query about the use of the Phaerimm by other DMs. Now based on the few entries I have read, they are supposedly quite powerful and to be feared. I have not yet read the return of the arch-wizards series, but the PGtF makes them out to be quite tough. But as I read the MoF entry I felt I was not getting the whole picture. For example

They have a SR of 15 + 3/sorcerer level. So a basic “epic” phaerimm level 21 sorcerer would have a SR of 22. BY contrast a Drow of the same level and class has a SR of 32).

They don’t really have a great AC and while they get multiple physical attacks they are not overly strong and as is mentioned frown on physicality to begin with.

They are stated as being intelligence but the basic template (int 18) shows they are no more so than other Wizards of renown in Faerun.

They have no form of resistance to physical or elemental attacks and no mention of being impervious to mental domination at all.

If their flight ability is hampered or disabled they are at an extreme disadvantage.

I mean beholders and mind flayers seem far more menacing to me?

SO what am I missing or misreading? IS there another entry for EPIC or Elder phaerimm in anther manual?

Thanks

Yeah, i can see it now. I totally overlooked the PGtF web enhancement as I am not using 3.5 rules yet. (yeah I know I know...I am too cheap to shell out the $90 for the books.)

Anyway thanks to both of you for pointing me in the right directions.

You haven't missed anything Chyron: the base creature is not that powerful. The danger of the Phaerimm lies in their spellcasting ability.

Like Arivia mentioned, Phaerimm have been redone majorly: they now gain spellcasting power as they age, automatically! (akin to dragons)

This means that you can have a base Phaerimm with additional sorcerer levels, which would stack directly on top of their "base" sorcerer caster level.

Mr. Rich Baker also mentioned that they don't have the Summon Familiar ability unless you actually give them additional sorcerer levels.

You can read on the new, improved and rebloodyfied Phaerimm here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/we/20040313a

The scariness is back, and now, several of them are loose on Faerun too!

This becomes a racial modifier; even gold elves don't get +8 to Intelligence.

Keep in mind phaerimm are eligible for epic feats with only...

--WotC just rendered this argument moot; look at the WE for the PGtF. The phaerimm received a major redo, as in complete entry revision. I can't remember the last time we saw this...
