IF … stress there... IF... Karsus were to somehow get a sect of followers, even if they treated him more like a underling to another god like Mystra or Azuth, etc... and thus treated him something like an exarch or saint...

In that instance, what kind of Holy Symbol do you see for him? The first thought that comes to my mind is a heart (since the Karsestone used to basically drip blood, and when you take his sign as a binder you bleed more without taking extra damage) or a red stone dripping blood.

-Just basically a picture of me, but cheesing like the Vault Boy.

So what is he the exarch or saint of? According to this theoretical group of followers.

Excellence
Arrogance
Penance

Maybe even something deeper and more wizard specific like a Realms version of atheism.
(Not Ur priest, but more the replacement of the gods by more determined mortals)

I think the symbol should be representative of the idea they believe he embodies.

No he didn't. Karsus just brought them all down.

Ioulaum inveted them.

I'd incorporate some kind of floating enclave emblem surrounded by Mystryl's stars.

If not a floating enclave mountaintop then perhaps an infinity sign, it seems like the Karsus kinda thing to do.

A grey circle with red tears, because Karsus' vestige is essentially trapped in sorrow and regret over the deaths and destruction of his home.

Yeah, I thought about that actually Eric, but honestly, I couldn't make hide nor hair of WTH that is supposed to be. It looks like someone just randomly drew some lines. Did it make any sense to you? Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but honestly I feel the same on most of the vestige symbols.

A lot of the binder vestiges and imagery come from real-life occultism: Buer is right out of the Key of Solomon, with the symbol taken directly from there too.

So Karsus' symbol there is an attempt to do something in the style of the Goetia that represents him. Considering they go hard on the bleeding mountain imagery with his sign and manifestation, I think that symbol is simply a bleeding mountain. (Compare to Acererak, who is depicted as a dungeon room with a single prominent gemstone, similar to his original introduction in the Tomb.)

The bleeding mountain isn't a bad choice, especially for a cult around the Karsestone, if you want to use the heresy/dead god rules from 3e for that cult. Since he was a mad paragon of humanity, maybe something akin to the Vitruvian Man?

Yeah, that's why I started this thread, because honestly... I don't like the imagery I came up with. A book with a crown on it... its better, but still doesn't scream Karsus to me. I wonder though, things that are "used" by mages like books sound good, but he was a "designer" or "theoretician" more than anything. The first thing that pops in my head with that are things like a beaker brewing potion... a measuring tool... Besides heavy magic and the spell to take out Mystra what else did he make?

Hmmm, another idea... a mythallar incorporated into his symbol? That might look like a fiery crystal ball... Maybe with the karsestone bleeding blood in the center of it? Maybe on the karsestone the symbol of Mystryl.

How about a book, with a different pattern of stars on it? Maybe there's a staff and a scepter crossed, under the book.

Yeah, that artwork is odd.

Castle? Mountaintop? Rain of Colorless Fire? (Oops that's Greyhawk.)

I know ... it's a centitpede-turtle hybrid.
