The Tower Terrible of Soorenar was a residence of the mortal archnecromancer, Velsharoon the Vaunted. When he ascended from him mortal form to divinity, his followers swarmed his former residence, but they were unable to enter the main tower. However, the outer towers, which contained laboratories, alchemical chambers, libraries, and guest accomodations were adapted to become a temple dedicated to this deity. Many sections of the tower terrible are inaccessible to those without the ability to climb, fly, phase, or be carried to the area, and the tower is protected by undead lacking the need to eat, sleep, defecate or anything else that would cause them to leave their post. Local residents were very wary of approaching the tower due to the number of unseen threats believed to be floating on the walls and just waiting for a target. Furthermore, the dragon fangs and horns which serve as perches for fiends, gargoyles, and flying undead, and the giant megalodon teeth on the stairs are both known to animate in order to assault threats attempting to enter areas that they shouldn't.

When the spellplague occurred, it is believed by most that Soorenar was drowned by the waters of the Alamber sea. However, some in Chessenta report evidence that portions of the town may have disappeared (much like reports from Cimbar and Akanax). There are some who whisper that the Tower Terrible may have travelled to Abeir, and given the theories that the tower may have held at least one of Velsharoon's phylacteries, just what might have occurred with this tower has been a wonder for the past hundred years. Oddly, after the events of the Second Sundering, some have begun to report having seen the tower again in the plains of the Returned Shaar near what was the capital of the country of Peleveran.
