The 3.5 psionic race of Maenad mentions a god, and since the name (greek, follower of Bacchus, maenad mean "raving ones"), is there some way to Connect this race to FR, using Bacchus as a dead god, or Connect them to the existing canon somehow? :)
Probably it would be some god of Madness, chaos or revelry?

That's still better than what happened with gorgons. The mythological Gorgon? Medusa. The D&D gorgon? A metal bull with a breath weapon.

That's just because Gary Gygax was forgetful.

I have noticed a few odd References to greek Mythology in Salvatore novels, as Hefestus.
But I think Auppenser could work for me :)

I tried to fix the anomalous Dionysus reference in my saints of Ilmater piece, as well as the Poseidon reference in my Chamber of Sages thread.

You might consider maenads as a cult or heretical worshippers of Auppenser. No gods truly die in the Realms anymore.

That Poseidon bit is the first I've heard. The Olympian pantheon doesn't seem to have much of a foothold in Realmspace, or at least it's too negligible to be considered. While there are inter-divine friendships (Mystra 1 and Wee Jas, Mellifleur and Velsharoon, possibly Myrkul and the big three death gods in the Gray Waste), the only definitive thing about the Olympians is Hermes looking for Tyche.

The original Bloodstone Pass adventures and the original Bloodstone Lands supplement had the main priest being a follower of St. Dionysus (it specifically puts the St. in front). Its also worth noting that the original Bloodstone Wars pregenn'd 100th lvl characters were all named after Greek heroes/gods as well (specifically Perseus, Hermes, Circe, and Artemis). That being said, the 100th level characters are not considered realms canon, but the lower level NPCs are. They later clarified this further by having it being that said priest was simply a follower of Ilmater with a special devotion to a saint named Dionysus (since Ilmater is so prevalents in the area). This actually "somewhat" fits with the idea that Ilmater is the same being known as Issek of the Jug in the Nehwon pantheon.

Poseidon also came from the Bloodstone Lands supplement. See below. Personally, I've simply come to believe that Impiltur had some priests of Poseidon who came over from elsewhere, and their prayers were answered by Valkur.

It should be noted that Salvatore's works are peppered with names from Greek Mythology.

***********From Bloodstone Lands, page 23

Ilmater, god of endurance and suffering, is a favorite of Damarans. The yellow rose, symbol of St. Sollars the Twice-Martyred, is a common sight in the land. Even those who live by other faiths feel a closeness to this long-dead patriarch. Anyone who has lived in this
land of hardships knows the virtue of endurance in the face of suffering.

St. Dionysus is also honored here. Recently, construction of a huge cathedral has begun in Goliad. The construction was financed by a gift of gems and gold plundered from the lair of Tiamat by Friar Dugald, who is an associate of Baron Gareth. Some say the church is
Gareth#146;s political move to win over the people of Brandiar. However, those who know Friar Dugald do not question his dedication to St. Dionysus, though they might wink at the secondary motives behind the location of the church.

***********From Throne of Bloodstone

Friar Dugald
Cleric of the Order of St. Dionysus,
Knight of Bloodstone
19th-level Human Cleric

*********from bloodstone lands, page

The real power of Rilaunyr'#146;s Warship lies in magic. When fully manned, she carries six magic-users, levels 7-13, and a complement of twelve clerics of Poseidon, one of whom is a 15th level high priest.

Dionysus WAS paid tribute to in the Realms, but as a saint of Ilmater whose faith was based in Damara (though he's still referred to as "The Drunken God" in Road of the Patriarch).

Also, Poseidon was worshiped in Impiltur as a fickle water god.

Dionysus is not worshiped in Realmspace; the only Greek power there was Tyche and she was split into Beshaba and Tymora. There are no gods of insanity either, so your best bet is Llira.

I guess you could go with Beshaba as well.
