Imagine you're on a quest. A dangerous one. But you have to pick one of the following. Both know the quest despite being in different universes. Just imagine they know what's going on

Jack sparrow or jarlaxle

Jason Bourne or entreri

Drizzt or legolas

Bruh or or gimli

Regis or frodo

Catti /Danica or Jessica jones

Wulfgar or the rock

Of these who would you choose for your ultimate team.

So another way of asking the question is: "Johnny Depp or R. A. Salvatore?"

Both have gold and fame. Yet I never hear girls swoon over Salvatore. I know which one I'd want to party with when I want to attract female NPCs.

Depp has acted characters in pirate movies while Salvatore has roleplayed characters in dungeons & dragons. I think half-trained swashbuckling pirates would be more skilled and deadly swordsmen than paperback authors.

Depp has created a dozen interesting and entertaining characters, Salvatore has created almost 1d4 such characters. An important consideration if the rogue in the party needs skills of disguise and infiltration. An even more important consideration if the party plans to engage in any sort of real conversation while drinking at the tavern.

(Captain) Jack Sparrow can defeat mighty armadas and supernatural opponents. Drizzt Do'Urden can defeat entire armies and magically powerful opponents. Both characters use their wits and charm and skills and agility and personality and manipulation and numerous sundry cheap tricks to accomplish such impressively impossible deeds on the fly. Drizzt also needs a backpack full of magical crutches like special swords and a wondrously powerful supercat - he fares rather poorly when all his elite munchkin supertoys get taken away. (Captain) Jack Sparrow needs nothing more than a good ship - or lacking that - the driving tenacity to somehow obtain himself one as soon as possible. I think (Captain) Jack Sparrow's character sheet is all about the character himself, he has skills and experience and talents and abilities and a background full of juicy secrets (just as does Drizzt) - but he doesn't need to also pack along several trilogies full of uniquely powerful magical items to be a hero and do heroic things.

(Captain) Jack Sparrow acts like a man when he has any decent ship. Literally *any* decent ship will do. Drizzt Do'Urden acts like a demi-man only when armed with his very special one-of-a-kind arsenal of superweaponry. I love being in an adventuring party where the players just improvise and adapt and overcome, setbacks and speedbumps make the ride more fun and the rewards more meaningful, I hate being in a non-adventuring party with players who become endlessly whiny and refuse to even leave town (let alone face danger or set foot into the dungeon) once all their favourite game-breaking toys and gadgets get taken away.

And Jarlaxle? He's just the anti-Drizzt, the foil and nemesis. Narratively opposed but thematically identical to Drizzt himself, just a different character designed along the same fundamental walking-arsenal-of-gamebreaking-toys template. Authors and actors can't help but repeat patterns (because there's no substitute for success!), but that doesn't excuse the fact that sometimes one basic pattern is intrinsically inferior to another.

But what about JOHN CENAAAA

Depends on which world I was in :P

Damn, undone by my own logic. The quest succeeds but I die at the first encounter.

But doesn't that make you the red shirt on the quest?

So Jack Sparrow, Jason Bourne, Drizzt, Bruenor, Frodo, Jessica Jones, and the Rock.

Anyone else is just vulnerable.

My Picks would be.....

Jack Sparrow since i cant trust Jarlaxe farther than i can throw him :).

Entreri would be my next pick. I would like to see how he reacts to jacks endless prattle :).

Drizzt cause hes drizzt and has a nice Cat :).

Bruennor with his Shield is always welcome at my camp fire :)

Frodo only with Ring without Regis.

Catti cause i could use someone who can blast up lots of enemys in a short time.

Wulfgar/Rock hmmmmm i think i would Chose the Peoples Eyebrow (The Rock) cause thats the bottom line :).

Hahaha you guys are right. I was just posting this for a bit of mirth and fun for us haha. It'd be funny to see combinations of people from two different worlds interact with each other.

A mashup as they call it.

Also, which Jason Bourne? The movie Jason Bourne and the novel Jason Bourne are practically different characters. Their only similarities are the (assumed) names and the amnesia they start with.

We'd love to tell you, but we forgot...

And you also forgot the mini-series Jason Bourne (Richard Chamberlain), but the one counts as novel Bourne, Right?

Some of these comparisons are not at all valid ones. If you're going on a quest, why would you ever pick the guy that had no magical stuff at all, over the guy who did?

I don't even know who the non-FR/ME people are.
Berkthgar Posted - 16 Apr 2016 : 15:26:35
Errtu or Balrog
Berkthgar Posted - 16 Apr 2016 : 15:05:15
Hahahahahah Bruh.

I mean bruenor but spellcheck
ElfBane Posted - 16 Apr 2016 : 13:01:00
Jarlaxle is vastly superior to Sparrow.

Bourne/Entreri is about a tossup assassin-wise. Entreri probably the better thief.

Drizzt is vastly superior to Legolas.

Who is Bruh? Ergo, Gimli by default.

Regis by a mile… Frodo is naught but a member of Hobbit gentry.

Catti. Because the party needs a mage. Especially a Chosen. JJ’s ability to fly doesn’t trump that.

The Wulfgar/Rock choice is close. They both are quite strong humans, but Wulf because of the magic weapon.

That'll be 2 cents, please.
