Well met all! Quick question. I've got a halfling archer who wants to be "the best archer in the Realms". He heard about Kara-Tur and now wants to go their and train. Could, or should, this happen? Can the halfling learn kyudo? ( The art of the bow.) Any and all suggestions would be great. Thanks!

The short answer is that there isn't any reason why a halfling couldn't visit Kara-Tur. Getting there can be a problem; if your halfling is currently in Waterdeep, it's something like 10,000 miles from there to the Shou border. But it's possible. There are caravans crossing the Hordelands in both directions all the time, so if nothing else he could hire on as a guard.

It's once in Kara-Tur that his problems are going to arise. There aren't any native halflings, and I can't imagine very many get out that way. So everyone is going to regard him as a child, and treat him as such. He's going to be fighting that misconception the whole time he's there.

Also, the Kara-Turans are, well, extremely arrogant. They consider their own society to be the pinnacle of culture, and everyone else to be barbarians. That includes everyone in Faerun, though most people probably haven't heard of the term. And the local masters are reticent with their techniques in the best of cases, which being a mutant outsider certainly isn't.

So, short version: is it possible for him to learn the local bow styles? Yes. What kind of incredible heroism would be required to convince a master to deign to teach you? No idea, but it would no doubt be epic.

Why not stop by the Hordelands? The Tuigan archers are some of the best (if not the best) in the Realms.
