I have a question that is near and dear to my heart:
I noticed on the Realms wiki page that Moradin's holy symbol has changed. No longer does it depict the hammer of creation; an active force and symbol for dwarven diligence, perseverance, and capacity to alter their environment or destinies with blood and sweat and numbers. Instead, it has the soul forge's fire atop the anvil. Which I believe to be a passive force, obtained and maintained by the divine with little-to-no mortal involvement required for its existence.
Now, I know that maintaining a forge at forging temps is anything but a passive thing, but I believe that the fire symbolism here is that of the divine fire from which all was created, and no mortal could hope to wield or control it.
Can anyone please enlighten me about this change and how it occurred?
Thanks in advance. |

Posted - 20 Mar 2015 : 00:48:12 No, there wasn't any reason given for changing the symbol. Gods were a major focus for updates in 4th edition. Lots of gods got a different holy symbol for no reason other than making it look new. |

At the bottom of that same wiki page there is another image of a more familiar holy symbol that is labeled as the symbol "during the Era of Upheaval." Inferring that there was indeed a change sometime during the so-called Spellplague or shortly thereafter (if I'm not mistaken on its definition).

I was actually hoping for some compelling lore behind the change. If it was simply an impromptu change from the creators of 4e, I would also like to know why. Very early on, there was only a description of Moradin's symbol, so it was certainly subject to interpretation and the one I used for decades (before I read anything 3e I reckon)actually had the hammer resting atop the anvil, stationed smart and ready.
Aslo, Thanks Artemas!!
