During a pen and paper game of D&D, a problem arose that I have yet to find the answer to. Since Negative Energy has a reverse effect on undead, does that apply to shades as well? Not Undead Shadows (as many people think shades are), but people who give their souls and replace them with pure shadowstuff. So, once again, would Negative Energy heal a shade?

Thank you all for the advice. My DM has ruled that because Shades are pure shadowstuff, and not truly undead, Negative Energy has a normal effect on them.

Hmmm...good suggestion, although it doesn't cover all the loop-holes which would allow someone to unbalance the game given the Shade's highly unique abilities...

Perhaps they merely have a resistance to negative energy?

Greetings!

I agree with Trafaldi, a shade is not a undead, so I think Negatice energy spells should have reversed effect.

Going by the rules if a shade is not considered undead, then it would not do the reverse. However a DM could rule it so to where it would have a reverse effect upon the shade.

Hmmm...this is an interesting question.

Without any research, at this point, I'd say that a possible solution to such a situation would be DM's perogative.

But, as I said 'without any research' this could change, and given the relative abilities of the Shades anyway allowing the DM to decide may be the best option. This really has the potential to unbalance a campaign, if used inappropriately.
