Goshdarnit. I'm certain the spell I'm looking for was a "bladesinger" spell. I've looked in all the obvious places, but still can't find it.

If in "The Fall of Myth Drannor", it's Bloodbriars.
Bloodburn - as martynq wrote, is from CotD. L3, Evocation, Dragonmagic, Range = touch, so it's mostly pointless other than to be mean; but also instakills oozes and suchlike (save still negates, so it's kind of "better than touching without it" thing) and cancels cold damage to the target for duration (5 rounds flat), so e.g. a red dragon suffers no fire damage, but gains immunity to cold spells.

Having gotten to my books, I still cannot find the spell named bloodburn. I'm sure I'm not imagining it, but I'll be damned if I can find where

There was also a spell called bloodburn in "Cult of the Dragon".

I think that's it, thanks Wooly.

Are you thinking of Beltyn's Burning Blood, from the Forgotten Realms Adventures hardcover?

Here's part of the spell description, from page 53 of that tome:

quote:
By means of this spell, a wizard can cause the open, bleeding wounds of any creature to burst into flame, converting the blood into a corrosive mix which inflicts 3-12 additional points of damage per round. "Open wounds" is defined as those wounds created by an edged weapon and which have not been dressed or healed.
