Hello!

I have, as DM, played many social and political campaigns in the Realms. Therefore, heraldry have often prominently featured.

I have a question about heraldry not found answers in books ... As heraldry for demihumans work? What is the relationship between the heraldry of these races? I refer mainly to the "civilized" races, like elves, dwarves, halflings, etc.

Heralds are also the ones responsible for these issues?

I'm with a new campaign in Silver Marches, and there is a place of many interactions between demihuman races. So these questions make much sense for my game.

Thanks!

Well Waterdeepians are not exactly known for their subtlety and good taste.

thanks, I was playing around with matching the itty bitty pictures and descriptions of their heraldry that you saw in black and white from the first edition Waterdeep & the North. The eagleshield one, I lucked into a free to use vector of an eagle on the web.

Oh, and some of them are god awful ugly, but that was the colors it said to use in the description, so I stuck to it. My girlfriend did have me choose slightly different shades on some that made them less ugly.

Check out the section on the High Heralds in "THe Code of the Harpers", it talks about this. There's a lot there, but essentially yes, the Heralds DO record non-human heraldry. Just as couple of examples:

- The office of the High Herald "Old Night" says "Old Night maintains the heraldry of those woodland races that have dealings with men - and even goblin-kin - and some whisper that Old Night works to further the wishes of those races."

- The Herald's Holdfast is described as having a domed entry chamber displaying human heraldry and heroic frescoes, and goes on to say "...a corridor leads into the rock of the hill, lined with domed chambers, one devoted to each of the intelligent races (demi-human, humanoid, giantkind, and even races usually ignored, such as centaurs, satyrs, and korred). All resemble the Chamber of Man in contents."

However it doesn't really describe anything about the styles associated with those races. I know some of it's been described elsewhere, like in the "Ask Ed" scrolls, but I don't have links handy.

That's... actually a very good question.
Well... we know that at least Elven noble Houses have heraldry, and that Drow version is somewhat more schematic and gets spammed around, and supplemented with House glyphs.
Halflings - heraldry of exactly what? AFAIK they don't even have any tradition of nobility and related trappings, and never did. The coat of arms of Luiren, probably is the only halfling-specific thing of this sort.
Dwarves IIRC weren't mentioned, but won't surprise me if they had.

Hmmm. Heralds are known to study non-human history, up to having contacts with some orc tribes.
But it's hard to imagine elves deigning to tell human the parts more intricate than "this is a tiny insignificant part of the story of My glorious House!" - much less rely on lowly N'Tel'Quess in such matters. On the other eyestalk, Harpers were split from Heralds and elves were co-sponsors, so who knows.
Conversely, the Dwarves probably would like to have things well-organized and if humans travel far and wide and want to help, let them.

Only because this is about realms heraldry (it doesn't exactly fit anything about demihumans).... IF you ever need some noble heraldry from Waterdeep, I tried my hand at drawing some.
