I've always been interested in Living Campaigns and always wondered...does the outcome and events that happen in Living Campaigns become canon for teh setting?
For instance...if I joined Living FR, would my character, in whatever minor way, become a part of FR canon? |

-Most of the minutia that would be "to be determined by fans" is the kind of stuff that wouldn't make it into campaign setting books to begin with. Especially in the 'less is more' sourcebook format that was adopted. Major details and things like that I would imagine wouldn't be left up in the air to be resolved based on the outcomes of all those campaigns, and those are the things that get the attention. |

That stinks. It just seems to me like that would be a great marketing tool, and create more loyal gamers.
WotC, or which ever company, Paizo for PF, could keep the main events to themselves, but pick a few submitted material from Living campaigns and put into canon as stuff that happens around the main events, including PC's. |

The Raven's Bluff Living Campaign became highly canonical. I wish I knew how to get a hold of the modules to see just how they did.
Since then though, the RPGA has had less and less support from WotC. The events of the Loudwater campaign were, for the most part, published online from the perspective of a party of staff playtesters. I have no idea what happened with the Undermountain campaign and after the second year of the latest LFR games, WoTC abandoned them completely, making everything published after 2010 non-canonical.
Dalor Darden is correct when he says that individual PCs aren't named but if we take the Loudwater Campaign as an example, we see The Order of the Jade Blade - an adventuring company that the PCs could join - become synonymous with the actions of the PCs in general.
Now we have DnD Encounters, where if people play the game at their local gaming store on certain days, they can submit the results of their session which WotC will total up and develop canonical events from. As far as I'm aware (though please correct me if I'm wrong) none of the stores that support DnD Encounters can be found outside the US and Canada. |

Rarely do individual characters become canon...however, the events that transpire in the adventures often do in some way. |

I'm not sure if games and characters played in Living City events are considered canon, but there is a 2e Raven's Bluff book that canonized much of the LC stories, as far as I know. But other sages can answer you better. |
