I was wondering what artistic projects anyone here at the keep had done or had ideas for.
For example:
I've recently made an attempt at a decorative shield to hang on the wall of my game room. The shield was based off of Paul S. Kemp's description of Dawnlord Abelar's shield in The Godborn.
I've been wanting to make a scale model of The Yawning Portal Inn (using cardboard boxes cut to size and painted) to use in my tabletop game, but don't know where to look for an exterior description of the Inn.
Has anyone else done similar projects, or have an interest in such things?

Delwa: I meant that oak is lighter than cherry so that's what I would go with.

Sleyvas your work is good. I espcially liked Eagleshield (my favorite), Helmfast, Irlingstar, Roaringhorn (my second favorite), Rosenar (third favorite), Ruldegost and Wands. Very nice.

Thanks. The ones that were your favorites, I borrowed the main artwork (the hawk, horn, and eagle) from some clip art, but I'm glad you liked Helmfast. That one I did by hand as my first one, and I picked up a lot of clues that helped on the rest.

You mean lighter than oak or cherry, or the light stains I mentioned? I'm open to suggestion. [:-)]

The Arcanamach Thanks! I'm still leaning toward a light stain on the wood. I can't decide between a very light oak or cherry stain. I've never worked with wood before, so I don't want to ruin it by doing too much.

Thank you so much! I'll see if I can find that.

Dark Wizard Thank you. I appreciate it.

Check out the cover of the Time of Troubles Module FRE3 Waterdeep TSR9249. Part of the Yawning Portal's exterior is the background.

Splendid work, Delwa and Sleyvas.

They all worked for me! I really like what you did with the Eagleshield Crest. You mentioned making decals for miniatures out of them. I never thought of making my own decals for minis; I've only played with paint schemes. That's really neat.

PaulSKemp Here's the link to the shield. I'm still debating what color I should stain the wood, if at all.
This is my first attempt at using a wood burner, and it turned out better than I expected, but not as well as I'd envisioned.

Well, I'm not much of an artist, but Visio helps if you're doing simple line art. I did the below back in July, basically looking at the old itty-bitty drawings from FR1 Waterdeep and the North and the written descriptions. Also, my girlfriend swears I have no eye for color, so I picked the wrong shades of green, etc.. for some.

***********from original post below****

Well, I finished 21 of the crests. I made the original black and white vector graphic in visio 2002 (and saved in .vsd format so that I can edit the parts), then I saved it as a tif file with 256 colors, opened it in paint and just used the paint bucket to color them mostly (occasionally had to use the paintbrush). Some of them are butt ugly (I'm not the best at choosing what exactly is "crimson" or "deep green", etc....), but they pretty much match the descriptions from Waterdeep and the North.... and when they're reduced to decal for a miniature size, they should be wonderful. For use on handouts to players, its probably impressive enough. I wouldn't consider it "professional quality" like the maps I see from Markustay, etc... Some of it I pulled from clip art on the web. Anyway, below are the links, hopefully they work.

Edit Fixed the link to the album, I hope. The original link didn't show the final project. It should show six photos in the album.

My art attempts have been more on the PC, such as doing heraldic insignia, etc...
