Posted - 03 Jan 2014 : 00:00:35 Well while RAS is at it, why not just go ahead and bring back Zaknafein? I mean the other companions are all being brought back in one shape or another, so why not just bring Drizzt's father back.
I think I would actually enjoy a series of books about Drizzt and Zaknafein going on adventures. |

Posted - 24 Mar 2014 : 02:15:12 I would fully support Zak coming back, actually haha. Or at the very least, have his spirit appear to Drizzt. It was said in one of the earlier books that his soul was at peace, so I guess it might not be...ethical, if you will, to bring him back, but I would still like it. If RAS is going to write a back story on Zak and Jarl, I would like to know the fate of Zak's soul. I realize a lot of others probably don't care, and I realize it likely won't happen, but it's a piece of knowledge I would like to know. I don't think Zak is on the Wall, but I also don't think he's with Lolth.
If RAS brings back Zaknafein, he should bring back Tarathiel too haha. JK. I liked Tarathiel a lot, but I'd rather see Zak. |

There's precious few good FR fanfic available.
And yeah, a Zaknafein & Jarlaxle as youths book would be awesome, but I don't think it'll ever happen. |

Most fanfiction would focus on a different sort of "teaming up!"
With thrusting and slashing of swords, oh my! |

The Companions were probably brought back simply because Bob wasn't done with them. But I think he made peace with the loss of Zak a long, long time ago.
Still, there's plenty of interest in flashback/prequel stories about Zak.
I think it would be fun. Learn a bit more about Jar, Zak, and their backstory. What was the "betrayal" etc. Heck, I'd also love to know what happened and why with Matron Vartha dying when Malice was still in the Academy myself. |

And maybe they could team up with Cale and his son. |

I would love to see a Zak&Jax book. As for bringing him back from the dead, um...No. He's been in the afterlife too long now and it would just be grade A factory cheeeeeese, IMHO. And yes, I know many think the same with bringing the others back but, where that is concerned, it's about all RAS could do to keep his main characters in play after WotC forced the timejump on everyone. Really not RAS' fault. Cheers.
Here's my ultimate problem with that. Not a single book RAS wrote during the 4e era actually took place after the time skip; at least not a whole one.
Prologue for The Orc King, epilogue for The Ghost King, last chapter of The Last Threshold, and I'm guessing the later parts of The Companions. That's it.
Everything else took place during the intermediary. Everything.
If he didn't want to kill his characters of he could have kept writing about 'em for five years instead of filling in the blanks to a timeskip that's about to become irrelevant.
Then again, I suppose hindsight's twenty twenty. RAS certainly didn't know how long the edition would last, and probably didn't know how long he could get away with stalling.
Still, way it went down, left a bad taste in my mouth. |

Posted - 03 Jan 2014 : 08:08:32 Some years ago, Bob did promise something along the lines of a young Jarlaxle & Zaknafein book before his contract with WotC was up. Unless said contract was extended however, he's only got one novel left before it is up. |

Posted - 03 Jan 2014 : 00:52:58 Those two would totally overshadow the rest of the companions as they chain-sawed their way through everything. Definitely make for some fun reading, but I'm hoping in time we'll see a Jarlaxle and Zaknafein novel that will show us some bad arse sword work in the same sense. |
