I saw a thread titled "Original Map" of the Forgotten Realms? over at EN World and within was posted a picture of what appears to be THE original Realms map, from this website titled "Visits to Makers of Dungeons and Dragons.

Anyway, something I think Markus or any other scribes interested in maps might want to take a look at.

The rest of the website is dainty, but there are some interesting pictures of the interior of TSR's old headquarters.

Ed didn't create Vassa & Damara - they pre-existed the published Reams, and got shoe-horned in when TSR bought the Realms. If thats truly Ed's map, then it CAN'T have Vassa & Damara on it.

Sure, I'm also aware that his original maps would not have had things like Moonshae.

But knowing what "should've" been there (or not) is very different than saying that anything other than hazy blobs can be seen on that picture.

No you can't. STAHP IT.

On the table: The one on the right might be a section of Mystara - it looks like it could be the empires region (maybe). The left one looks like the style of the Birthright maps, but its impossible to tell (and that may have been too early for Birthright).

Well, I have no idea how people are determining that Vaasa and Damara "aren't there" or even determining more than what might be the Sea of Stars. It's just not distinct enough, and the resolution isn't high enough to zoom in and see any real details. On the map he's holding up, to me it vaguely looks like a hand-drawn proto-version of the large map in the 2E FR Atlas. But details on countries or borders? Not really.

One of the maps on the light table, the unlit one, might possibly be a giant version of the Moonshaes. But again, that's a total guess because the resolution just isn't there to call out details reliably.

I'm reminded of witness testimony where people are SURE they see details in things when it's clearly not possible, LOL.

For those who really are invested in knowing more, perhaps contact Anthony Larme himself? The guy who put up the photos and the website? He was actually there, in person, looking at the maps. He'd be the one to ask, and he even posted his email address for questions. If that email doesn't work any longer, Google shows that he also has a Twitter presence which is active.

My bad. My eyes skipped over the "on the table" part of your question.

Theres no map behind Jeff's head in the picture I was referring to (those are obviously FR maps).

I was talking about those two maps laying on the table.

As far as I can tell, thats not FR. I don't now what other worlds TSR was supporting back then (except for Greyhawk, and it doesn't look like GH either).

The one behind Jeff's head looks like it was drawn by David LaForce. The Aglarond Peninsula and surroundings, perhaps?

There's not enough of the one on the left for me to identify but I think it may have been one of Dennis Kauth's maps.

It looks like the Unapproachable East is very different (Obviously no Vassa & Damara, for starters). It looks like there is no Easting Reach, either. I'm surprised to see the Hordelands looks fairly close to what we have. I wonder whatever happened to that map?

Great find, Jeremy - thanks for sharing!

EDIT: Does anyone recognize the two maps on the table further down the Webpage?

Nice little find there...I would pay some good money for a copy of that map.
