Greetings old friends it has been awhile since I've posted here. My friend and I were chatting about the magic jar spell and were wondering where in Realms fiction has it been used?
He recalled one drow novel where it may have been used. Are there any other examples? |

I believe he used a magical ring for that. Errtu later left the ring with Crenshinibon for it to manipulate Stumpet body to kill Catti-Brie |

The psionicist Magadon was imprisoned within the quasi-sentient mythallar of Sakkars (aka “The Source“) through some sort of telepathic bond which resembled Magic Jar, which originally led me to speculate this special mythallar (and perhaps others?) Can serve as a Magic Jar, lich‘s phylactery, or other sort of soul receptacle. |

IIRC, the balor Errtu used this spell, in the form of a spell-like ability, to imprison the soul of the dwarven priestess Stumpet Rackingclaw in Passage to Dawn. |

It was an effect of the artifact Ghearufu, and the usual victim was a Firbolg the character Ghost kept around just for that purpose.
The Firbolg Vander remains one of my favorite FR characters - its a shame we never got to see more of him. We had two great firbolg characters in The Realms (Tavis being the other), and yet, we still got goliaths shoe-horned into FR. They took the Firbolg's stuff! Keep your silly Nick Jr. 'polka-dot monsters'; give me a size-shifting giant viking any day!
Anyhow... Ghearufu seems to have been able to do the magic Jar spell 'at will', but IIRC, it did have some limitations (it may have been a 'once per day' thing - not sure). |

Read Resurrection, the sixth book in the War of the Spider Queen series. Gromph uses the magic jar spell to occupy the body of a Dyrr priestess, who was more physically fit than him to deal with a golem. |

Ya that assassin went by the name of Ghost. If memory serves, he had a magic item that allowed him to keep his body in one place while his spirit traveled into a host body. Not sure if it was a true magic jar effect though. |

there was a weak assassin in one of Salvatore's novels who would swap bodies (the ones with Cadderly) |
