Yes, this place is by far my favorite part of the Forgotten Realms. Full of lore, history, famous folk, villainous individuals, everything one could ask for in a sprawling metropolis-like city. Granted some have different views on it, I love it. So if you happen to enjoy it to, share with us your favorite experiences, campaigns, game experiences, favorite characters, lore, etc. Anything you wish to share, I shall be oozing with fan status behavior. Tis by far, the best place to be for me.

Thanks, Thauranil!
It's not bad, it's still on sale on Steam for 7.99 60% off! If you do, get it from there.

Indeed! I highly agree, I am working on BG Enhanced Edition lately. Testing the new kits for the classes and searching for new things throughout! So far, it's VERY much worth the money. It's the old game with TONS of bonus enhancements!

Bought the Enhanced Edition for the first Baldur's Gate. Definitely happy about it! Enhanced is quite remarkable to me, not to mention it was on Steam and they had it on sale. 60% off the game! ^_^

In general, more novels about the game itself and region would be nice. Npcs, infamous villains that may or may not still live, particular areas and organizations. Things like that.
Alruane Posted - 28 Nov 2013 : 00:27:51
On the topic at hand though, I'd really like to delve more into Irenicus' life. Maybe have a novel about his life UP until his elven heritage was stripped from him. Maybe make it into a few novels such as:

Early stages of life

Teen to young adult learning magic

Older age as he grew to love Ellesime and wanted power for himself

His final moments as an elf, onto his capture of the Bhaalspawn, etc.

I just always found him interesting, and wanted to learn more of his past. Also to further get a better look at suldanessellar maybe? Just various points about his life, and perhaps Bhodi's.

Trust me I understand being cynical sometimes, I have been known to be.

Well it makes sense I suppose, table top D&D was dying out mainly due to advancing technology. And the ever popular mmo trend that came full swing in the early 2000's. Don't get me wrong, it's not dead these days but I guess it makes sense. They would create a newer edition to bring in those players and keep it relevant for the technological age.

But in all honesty, it makes sense. Sadly, but very much true. Either way, the original games, before this 4e, were intensely fun to me. And to millions of other fans.

Don't be, I'm cynical and I'll explain why.

I maintain the belief that 4e was design to lasso in new players from the video game crowd not only through mechanics that are straight out of MMOs but through marketing.

This isn't the place or time for a 4e mechanics discussion, but simply put, the classes IMHO were designed to fill roles that were straight out of games like World of Warcraft.

The amount of attention Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter got in 4e I feel was obnoxious. They were selected because of their success as video games and had their importance magnified to justify the attention.

They either didn't consider it or ignored the fact that both video game franchises were too old for younger new players to have played or be interested in and any older new players who'd played or heard of those games would likely know people that play D&D and be more influenced by their "friends" to play then they would be by loose tie-in products.

Again, I'm just cynical. I would have preferred they'd tried printing a Dragonlance book instead of a Neverwinter book for 4e. They pulled that license from MWP for a reason after all.

The statue of Minsc and Boo in 4e baldur's gate is a fine example of everything that's wrong with everything 4e IMHO.

I like Baldur's Gate, more so after the Spellplague, which is surprising. It's the closest thing to an american city in any fantasy setting that I've read about.

I did not however, like the recent addition of a statue of Minsc in the market. Yes he was a fun NPC in the games, one of my faves actually but I don't see any reason for there to be a landmark depicting him in that city, especially considering the lore from the novels about him, which are supposedly more canonical than the games. I suppose Duke Adrian could have been the one to commission it for saving his life in Irenicus' dungeon but it's a stretch.

There was a good story to that actually. Minsk saved a merchant from some theives. The merchant had a statue made of Minsk and Boo and petitioned the city to put it in the wide.

With its back story the statue makes sense I think.

I never knew the story behind why they had a statue of Minsc put there. Very interesting indeed.

That's it fellow scribes, I am going to buy the original Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition. I wanted to do this in order, starting with that one. THEN, onto Baludr's Gate 2 Shadows Of Amn.
This should be fun!

Menzoberrazan has a special place in my heart, though it'a dos game so getting it running requires dos box and some elbow grease.

For the more modern games there have been 2 "recent" releases...

Dungeons & Dragons Anthology: The Master Collection
http://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Classic-Anthology-PC/dp/B005JQ064A/

Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights Complete
http://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Neverwinter-Nights-Collection-Pc/dp/B005JQ05RS

They're the original versions of the games, so they may not work on win7/8 pcs but there's plenty of info out there to get the running along with some unofficial patches (I believe.)

I wouldn't pay those prices, I'd check with local gamestops.. they were $30 at release or something like that. I'm pretty sure both are available in digital form if you can't find physical copies.

Of course Good Old Games has the license for some of these games now and has them wrapped in their emulator to get them running 100% flawless on modern machines.

I have the Temple Of Elemental Evil, didn't care for it too much. I mean it was a relatively good crpg, but not what I wanted in the game. It couldn't compete with Baldur's Gate for me.

Well BG EE was selling for like $19, and the number two is around $24. I forgot where I saw the second ones price, but that was pretty good considering it just came out.

The multi-classing is what makes it interesting, I usually only multi class Kensai/wiz. Other than that I am strictly one class type, so it's really awesome to see that build. I do that to, I add some of my extra good chars as npc back up. But good choices there.

As to the OP: My favorite (as always) is a male half-elf, usually a multiclassed Clr/Ftr/Wiz. In my mind, he is a wizard with access to divine spells (due to his divine origins) and I add the fighter because I think such an entity should be tougher than the norm. However, he dresses and acts as a wizard (I rarely have him use a weapon and shield, for instance).

Bar none, BG is my favorite game of all time...despite its antiquated graphics/engine. Nothing since then has been able to trump the game's immersiveness and great dialogue combined with a great storyline.

Now to look up this Project Eternity...

YES! Totally planning on replacing my original copies with these. I've inspected the additions to the new game, and I am impressed and happy!

Good choice, half elves have a decent array of class/multi-classes to choose from. But that character definitely has an interesting aspect to it, liking the sound of it already.

Yes yes and yes, the games dialogue and story are top tier entertainment. The storytelling is one of the many fine points that make it so much fun to play! Yes, the graphics are not OUT OF THIS WORLD, but for some reason it seems to fit PERFECTLY with the setting and story. I honestly love the graphics for both games.

They were also working on BALDUR'S GATE 3 before it was canned (and yes, there was going to be one but it had nothing to do with BG1+2, and was in fact set in the Dalelands IIRC).

Obviously, due to legal issues, it won't be set in the Realms, but beyond that looks like being quite an interesting game.

I'm planning a full replay of BG1 and 2 (plus expansions) next year, probably using the 'complete mod' to turn them into one big game.

First of all, VERY excited for the mere idea of this!
Secondly, the idea to use the complete mod to make it one big game...makes it even better. But this is very good news, I didn't hear about it at all before today.

Nothing worse than a corrupted game, it drains a lot of the fun and will to play it. Sometimes. Sorry to hear that. =

Well thanks for letting me know, I shall do my best to avoid it now. I have enough issues with some of my other games anyway. Let's just hope they plan on releasing more games from Forgotten Realms. Mainly places that deserve a chance to be made into a (hopefully) successful game.

My Neverwinter Nights installation got corrupted after a year or so and I never got around to reinstalling it.

Daggerdale was the buggiest game I've played since Daikatana. Clipping issues, omniscient enemies and I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a single PC gamer who could get through the entire campaign without a CTD.

It's no wonder WotC didn't bother with new offline games after that fiasco.

I never counted the Dark Alliance games as part of the Baldur's Gate franchise but they were enjoyable in their own, vastly different, way. If only Daggerdale could have been as good.

Tis true, after Irenicus it was business as usual in Baldur's Gate. I still wished I continued playing Neverwinter Nights. I just never kept up with the games/story. They were fun though.

I never did either, I thought of them as a stand alone entry that was not canon to the original games. But they had fun moments to them. I heard things about Daggerdale, never got to play it though. What was wrong with it?

I wished it so, but maybe it was for the better that they did not? Sometimes the games or the series tend to get worse with added entries. But I still must agree, I wish they continued it as well.
Very nice choice in character. What was your most outlandish or, otherwise, unusual character you have made on there?

I didn't mind them, they kind of grew on me. At first I did not care for them. But after a few play throughs, it just got better.
