I seem to remember reading a short, vague passage in, I think, in one of the Avatar Trilogy books about Lord Ao. The passage was towards the very beginning of one of the books, and it stated that there were creatures that the Overgods (as in, Lord Ao and others) made war with before the beginning of time.

I'm cooking up some lore of a campaign and wanted to re-read this passage. I went to the bookstore and looked through each of the five Avatar Trilogy books, but couldn't find the reference. Did I dream this, or perhaps misinterpret something when I read the books long ago? Does anyone else remember this quote?

I know about Elder Evils and other creatures, but they are more enemies of the people of Faerun/the Gods than they are enemies of the Overgod. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It may have been in the Shadow of the Avatar books.

I recall Ao communicatin with an undisclosed number of (presumably overgodly) peers several times, and reporting to one he addressed as “Master“ at the trilogy‘s conclusion, though the medium of this communication was not described and the identity/nature of the participants was not revealed. (Although, of course, the reader knows of Ao‘s direct involvement in the Realms.)

Much speculation about Ao has been discussed in other scrolls, and little “official“ lore of any consequence has been stated which wasn‘t drawn from printed sources.

For all we know, Ao is/was a temporary supergodly construct whose existence was to create and police a world (well, a crystal sphere containing a few worlds) for some other megadivine agency. He might even be replaceable, or merely a superdivine consensus being manifested by the Faerunian pantheon.

I don't have memories of this at all. There's the shadevari, whom joined with Shar and battled Selune and Chauntea during the dark ages following the creation of Realmspace. But I don't remember anyone waging war on Ao. Even the primeval/god stuff (if you follow 4E) was at a lower level than that. The only other related thing is that at the end of the Avatar Trilogy, Ao reports in to some ever-more-supreme being which is never mentioned again, but that seemed to be his boss, not an enemy.
