Has anyone ever converted a video game into an adventure? I've done it with BG 1 and 2 and now considering the same for Dragon Age 1. Which begs the question, anyone have any good ideas about how to incorporate the darkspawn into the Realms?

Icewind Dale (more the original than II) has been a source of inspiration for my PnP games for what seems like forever. Kuldahar and the drow merchant Nym, especially. I remember spending half a day trying to find the exact spot in the Spine of the World to place the valley shown in the game's world map.

I've sometimes used bits and pieces. I've recently been thinking of using Kuldahar from Icewind Dale myself. The lore on many of the weapons/armor from those games is a treasure trove of potential NPCs and events a DM can use.

I've not converted games, but I have converted the characters I've played into Realms NPCs. One of the Lords of Waterdeep I wrote up was originally my character in Star Wars Galaxies, and another of my on-again, off-again projects has been to make an adventuring party out of several of my toons from Lord of the Rings Online.

I have often thought about the NEverwinter Nights 2 story and a way to set it that doesnt completely break canon (the dates are all wrong).

The idea of a sentient mythal like defending force that is forced to turn to the shadow weave to save itself after the death of Mystra is actually a really good idea.

I wasnt going to bother with the song path bit and the silly abilities as that is too deus ex machina having something specifically designed to destroy the guardian. (I hate that in an rpg, takes all the effort out of it, which is why i steer clear of novels, they are full of those)

Instead maybe an off switch hidden in the depths of the central city (which could take the form of a song that had to be sung in the presence of the source of the guardian force - after all everyone puts an off switch into their super powerful defensive systems). So the party have to fight through hordes to get there and fight the big baddie while trying to deactivate it.

But it's only been a passing thought and i'm too busy converting the Night Below to really look into it in any depth.

I have been running a play by post modified BG2 Shadows of Amn for a couple of years now, it's been going well and the freedom of actual tabletop play helps expand on choices and my PCs have been surprising me, which is fantastic in a game that I have played maybe a dozen times or more. As for darkspawn, it depends on the system but there are loads of low to moderate CR underdark humanoids that could sub in nicely, andif you add templates into the mix there is a lot you can do. I'll see if I can coke up with any specific examples, though they will likely be pathfinder specific so if you aren't running 3.5e or Pathfinder examples would be of little use.

underdark twisted zombies or some other underdark twisted undead
