The fall of Hellgate Keep was the work of the Mistmaster of the Citadel of Mists, the bard Cryshana Fireglen, and Spellviper, a priest of Mystra. In the Year of the Gauntlet (1369 DR), the illusionist and the two Harpers employed an artifact known as the Gatekeeper’s Crystal to shatter the powerful wards that enveloped the ghoul-hold and bring about the destruction of the former citadel-town

Do we know any more of this mysterious mage?

I've asked Mr. Schend myself, and he gave me a nice answer. Part of it is described below:

"Spellviper got her name from the many tattooed serpents on her arms, hands, and legs (and her spells seemed to come from those snakes that would writhe and hiss the spells out, tattoos taking on the colors complementary with each spell)"

To the entire answer, check the Mr. Schend's thread on the Chamber of Sages.

That lore is Steven Schend stuff. He's active at the Keep again so maybe you can ask him on this thread in the Chamber of Sages.

Don't know that anything has been made canon, but with a name like spellviper, I'd have her focus on spells of 2 types

1) Spells that can be cast quickly and debilitate but don't kill their foe (particularly involving poison).
2) Spells that "turn" other spells (i.e. possibly an area effect spell turning that lasts for a round or two, possibly some spells that focus on contingently counterspelling, possibly some spells that take attack magic and turn it into healing magic (or healing magic that turns into attack magic), etc...)

Agreed, I'm also curious about this story, that I've only seen in the Hellgate Keep module and in The North boxed set.
