While I was looking at some of the beast cult deities( Lurue, Nobanion) I was entirely unable to find anything about varae the snake. If I could some details on his domains and his dogma I would appreciate it. Maybe someone can send a link if they find one.

"Around the time of the Dawn Cataclism, the nomadic tribes of the Shining Plains began to venerate Varae, a beast cult power associated with snakes. Pureboolded yuan-ti from the ruined lands of Serpentes began to infiltrate the cult after their priests revealed that Varae was simply an aspect of Sseth. (Modern sages speculate that Sseth slew Varae and seized his power in an attempt to extend his influence.) Under the direction of the yuan-ti, who had quickly assumed leadership of the beast cult, veneration of Varae spread as far as Calimshan and the Vilhon Reach. One entire tribe wholly embraced the primacy of serpentkind and migrated north to the Forest of Wyrms and the Serpent Hills, seeking ancient relics of the yuan-ti. These humans unleashed a powerful artifact which transformed them into a race of serpent people. The ophidians, as they come to be called, could pass on their curse to other humans and demihumans by biting them, and they quickly spread throughout the Realms, though they never gained sufficient numbers to challenge the human and demihuman races."

Barastir is right, Powers and Pantheons mentions Varae as an entity of a beast cult in the Shining Plains venerating snakes which was taken over by Sseth.

Edit: Correction of the location mix up.

I think Varae is mentioned as an alias of Sseth in "Powers and Pantheons". There they probably explain about the origin of the cult and how the deity was absorbed or became an aspect of the Chultan serpent deity.

There's an article about Varae in Polyhedron 114, maybe in there... or is the same as Ssseth's

So would this mean varae is primarily an evil god
