Cool. I was fond of last year's drow dice, even if they were a bit unreadable...Lol. |

Posted - 31 Jul 2013 : 23:01:26 Evidently, WotC will sets of these dice (follow link) to people who play Confrontation at Candlekeep at GenCon this year. |

Excellent. I again offer to aid you with that project should that prove helpful/needful. |

I know there was some talk about recording (video or otherwise) the Candlekeep session last year. I even vaguely recall a camera running someplace. Was anything done with that and, more to the point, will there be another attempt at recording things this year?
I'm going to try to do this if at all possible. |

Posted - 28 Jul 2013 : 00:03:16 Update: We are up to 7 of 8 slots booked! So, if you are a holdout with nothing major to do Friday night (and you know who you are by now...) then sign up before that final slot gets filled.
If you can't play, but you are curious about how adventures like this actually go, then please feel free to stop by and watch us for a bit. I'm always happy to have people listen in on the game (I might even hand you an NPC to interact with the players for a few if you are really curious). I'm planning on trying to run another session post convention (while I'm still in town) for those from the Keep who might have wanted to attend, but whose convention schedules were so packed they couldn't fit this event into them. There is no better way to know if this is your cup of tea than to come check it out in person! |

Posted - 21 Jul 2013 : 21:58:49 To those of you planning on attending GenCon, allow me to invite you to take a peek at the Realms themed (if unofficial) game I will be running (for the 2nd year in a row) there this year.
http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=18076
I enjoyed meeting many of you at the Candlekeep seminar last year, and I'd enjoy even more the opportunity to run a few of you in a game that richly rewards the possession of Realms lore. To say nothing of the fact that it would be a lot of fun...I even promise not to go all George RR Martin on you. Lol.
So, if your Friday night hasn't filled up completely and you think you might get a kick out of my concept, please do consider attending. If you have any questions, feel free to ask them on the thread or through PM. The more of us that attend the more Candlekeep centric inside jokes I can get away with! Heh. |

Smerwin,
Sounds like a fun time. I toyed with the idea of signing up to play it, but the 7 hour a day block each and every day of the con played massive havoc with the other aspects of my schedule (and I couldn't get any of my friends attending the con to sign up with me for that same reason, Lol).
That said, I hope you enjoy running it. I imagine it's going to be a pretty cool experience.
I hear the module will only be available as a convention exclusive? I think you can pre-order it now, but you have to pick it up at the con. (It also comes with a free paladin mini - $10 value if you were to buy that solo.)
I am hoping that the DMs will all be up to making it a totally enjoyable experience for their players. When I first heard about it, I wasn't sure if anyone would be interested in spending most of their convention in such an event. Obviously, many people were. Normally I volunteer to run about 16 hours of games to leave myself time for other stuff. However, since I worked on the Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle book, I felt a responsibility to help run the event--and the 28-hour time commitment.
The book is a convention-only offering, as you say. It has been described to me as part sourcebook/adventure and part collector's item/memento, but I can tell you I ordered mine. :-) |

The WotC website said (past tense as I can't seem to find it now) that they were first come first serve. Then I noticed they had tickets for them (and that they were gone for some of them). I thought I had tickets for the big announcement last year but I was pretty sure they also had a line for people without tickets.
Technically, Gen Con doesn't allow you to have ticketed events that are first come, first served; if an event is ticketed (i.e. not a walk-up or a delve or some such), people that signed up in advance have the right to attend the event.
It's not a problem to say that tickets don't matter, except that these rooms are smaller than the Marriott rooms they're used to dealing with (they hold just more than 150; the Marriott rooms can be 200+), and these events are sold out.
Last year, they made ticket-less people wait outside until the ticketed ones were all inside, and I anticipate something similar will have to happen this year. |

Tyrant/Garen,
I assume you guys are talking about the seminars, the "Delve: Confrontation at Candlekeep", and "Lords of Waterdeep" tournaments? I'd assumed they were basically 'first come, first served' generic ticket style events (like most of the ones last year).

Posted - 05 Jul 2013 : 13:53:21 I'll be there running the 28-hour, all-access, D&D Next Ghosts of Dragonspear Castle adventure.
The "Confrontation at Candlekeep" event is not going to have specific tickets. It is first-come, first-served--running every two hours, so you show up with generic tickets, hop in line, and go. This is going to reproduce what WotC does at other conventions like PAX and ComiCon. The "Murder in Baldur's Gate" event will require tickets. The All-Access event is also ticketed, but since tickets sold out in about 2 minutes, that's moot at this point. |

Posted - 05 Jul 2013 : 04:00:04 No plans for GenCon this year. Again. I'll get to my first though, eventually, I hope. Probably next year.
But work commitments and other real-world scenarios just simply won't schedule in the right order for me and my lady friend to arrange for the long haul to the US. |

Conversely, it appears that the "Murder in Baldur's Gate: Launch Weekend" and "Night with Dungeons & Dragons" (as well as the "D&D Next All Access Adventure Pass") events are fixed ticket events where you'd best be sure to reserve a spot in advance if you don't want to stand at the door hoping that someone who has a ticket doesn't show. Sadly, all the Baldur's Gate adventure events are sold out!
I'm still trying to figure out exactly what the "Night with Dungeons & Dragons" is going to be. It seems to imply a dinner like meal will be had (it's got a $20 per person ticket price for example and mentions food) as well as some form of entertainment. I'm not sure if this a panel presentation with snacks or a meal and a show, Lol. Anyone know anything more about it? |

They only take tickets when an event is going to be "sold out" beforehand (like the Celebrity D&D). Technically, they have to honor tickets, but it's not like they'll get in trouble if they don't. |

Posted - 04 Jul 2013 : 01:38:14 Hello all,
As August is fast approaching I figured it was 'that time' again and so I figured I'd post a 2013 version of my GenCon attendance poll.
The Candlekeep event (and a number of other Realms based events) were great fun last year and gave me the chance to meet a number of you in person (something my wife and I also very much enjoyed). Who among you plans to attend this year that might have missed the fun last time? And who might we run into again? |
