I am thinking about a spirit shaman leading a group of people, a cult that considers other deities to be false and I thought that their belief would be in more primal, basic, elemental powers and spirits. Do you guys have any suggestions on this? How to establish a cult, how to get followers and what kind of ideas would blend well in the Realms? |

The cult will have the same goals of uniting Aquatic folks as the original faith of Istishia but my character is human. A sailor once tought dead in a shipwreck, then washed up ashore and find himself changed etc. a bit cliche though. But I think adding a water genasi to the party/cult would also make it better. |

Also, I have always liked Ixitxachitls but I'm not into their FR lore, so I don't know if they could fit in. I only know they worship Demogorgon, which could help in creating connections - f.i., they could be allies against the other deities.

I thought on this and decided to use Istishia. It will be an unorthodox cult dedicated to the Water Lord. Their primary goal would be the elimination of Umberlee, Valkur and Eldath and their followers. Announce nobody else can lay any claim on the domains of the Water Lord and the destruction of false deities that pretends to rule over the Oceans and Seas.
For the character I thought to use Elemental Warrior with Water as main focus. I think Favoured Soul and Spirit Shaman with again Watery focus could also be good examples for a member of this cult or even pirates, sailors and Istishia clerics |

I'd suggest you to check the Elemental Gods entries in 2e Faiths & Avatars series... And maybe having one of them or Dendar the Night Serpent as the cult's deity. You could also check Sseth in Powers & Pantheons, to base your religious dogma. |
