Having read The Spectral Blaze that partly features High Imaskar, I couldn’t help but feel sorry for them. From what I’ve seen so far, they appear to be mere husks of their former mighty selves. Perhaps getting “resurrected,” essentially, (or coming back from millennia of hiding underground) is better than being a forgotten realm forever. They have time, and magic still runs in their blood, so maybe someday, somehow, they’d regain the former glory of their race . . .

What do you think? Is it better to see Imaskar again, albeit in their near-sorry condition? Or would you rather that they (excepting a very few surviving archmages scattered all over Faerun) remain “dead”?

Well, I've said it a couple times so far, but I'll say it again, what if Thay were refounded, but not just with Mulans. Upper Imaskari refugees (who would hate the Mulhorandi and Untherites), exiled Thayans (who would hate the Mulhorandi), and renegade Netherese (who might hate a theocracy if they're leaving Shade due to Sharran influence/control), plus possibly any other re-risen opportunistic groups in the area, joining together make a good invasion party... and some of those groups COULD be killed off but pass on their knowledge before the invasion is over.

I rather them remain dead. Why bring them back, exactly? I mean, what would be the point? I don't mind them having their Underdark vault where a handful of survivors sealed themselves away. Deep Imaskar is somewhat interesting if portrayed in a Fallout sense - the ancestors of those who survived a civilization ending event, who are but shadows of what they once were. They should be paranoid, isolationist, and for the most part actively sealing themselves away. If they have connections with anywhere outside of their Underdark home, it could be on the planes, which would be all that is left of the knowledge of their former glory.

In my Realms Thay conquered Egypt - err... I mean Mulhorand. If they knew about Deep Imaskar they'd be all over them, and when they are done picking the corpse of Imaskar clean there wouldn't even be bones left to bury.

Personally, I like the way I handled things in my Realms. There is a New Zulkirate after the civil war who are actually competent, dangerous, and capable.

I'd love to see canon take a similar approach. Have a New Zulkirate established that is actually competent, dangerous, and capable. Use them to overthrow Szass Tam, and then have them conquer New Imaskar or whatever it is they are calling themselves.
