I remember a scene where a group of Sensates (the Outer Planar faction, not Sharess's priests) led by their factol Erin Darkflame Montgomery, used magic to spy on Milil himself as he was composing some music. He was pleasant to them, and they all sang some songs together, but when the Sensates sought to break the spell and end their audience, Milil wouldn't allow it. Does anyone remember what novel or short story this scene happened in?
I believe that was from Pages of Pain, by Troy Denning; it was set in Sigil, and was essentially written from the Lady of Pain's point of view.
No, silverwolfer was correct. It's Tymora's Luck; I just double-checked. |

UPDATE: My mistake; looks like it was Tymoras Luck after all. |

I don't remember the exact novel, but since I did read the scene and didn't read many novels featuring Sigil I can narrow it down to be in either the Lost Gods Trilogy or the Blood War Trilogy.
I recall the Sensates being truly surprised since they were casting their spell from within Sigil and thought it impossibe that a deity could reach back through their spell into Sigil |

I think Wooly is on to something. Well, at least we know where he went during the ToT.
Now if we can only figure out which god Vanilli was.... |

Posted - 30 May 2013 : 09:51:05 I was rather shocked that Milil made the transition to 4E, considering they wanted to reduce the size of the pantheon by getting rid of redundant deities.
He isn't a very interesting deity at all, he isn't even the patron of bards - that title belongs to Oghma.
He's the deity of poetry, song, and eloquence. He needed some additional portfolios to make him more rounded - like seduction, or romance, etc. He just doesn't have much character.
I think his portfolios would be better served as follows:
Lliira gets his portfolio of song. She's already the goddess of dance and festivals. Making her the goddess of both song and dance makes sense, and simply builds on her already existing character by strengthening it.
I'd then give poetry and eloquence to Sune. This provides her with a little more refinement, which is fitting for her personality and character.
I mean, had they reprinted the 3E Faiths and Pantheons and simply removed Milil without telling anyone, I doubt most people would have even noticed him missing.
Potential Exchange: "I think we're missing a deity." "Oh? Which one?"
"Mil something... I forgot what he did."
"Oh, you mean the one I always called Grandma Milli because doing so was more interesting than the actual deity?"
"WTF? Wasn't he male? Wait - he's like the deity of bards or something, right?"
"Yeah, he's male. And Grandma Milli isn't the deity of bards, that portfolio belongs to Oghma. Look don't worry about it. Grandma Milli is fine. She just retired to Shady Pines or something. See? Happy ending. That's better than what Helm got - at least Grandma Milli wasn't shanked by the God of Justice who was acting like a total street thug."

I don't have access to those books to be honest, and would be rather expensive to grab as they are out of print. I was mostly looking for info dealing with latest events or anything after the time of troubles, as it seem most have replaced any mention of a bard like functionary god, with meliakki
Again, there's really very little to go on here. Milil's frequently been one of the most neglected gods in terms of coverage in the Realmslore.
Have you tried searching for any homebrew stuff online that may have been taken from non-canon campaigns run by other Realms fans? |

There's very little on Milil's interactions with either other gods and/or mortals in the Realmslore, I'm disappointed to say.
Are you looking for anything specifically... as I've got most of the [very few] references on Milil compiled into my notebooks covering musically-related Realmslore tidbits? |

Posted - 23 May 2013 : 02:51:50 In novels I can recall bards praying to him (Such as in the Haunted Lands trilogy), some characters being priests of Milil (Morala of Milil in Song of the Saurials) but none have been major characters. I can't recall Milil himself doing anything in any novel or material i've read. There are many gods and all don't get published stories due to time constraints. Assuming, that is, that all the Gods want to have a major impact in the world that would be noteworthy.
Milil being the god of song, eloquence and poetry may not have the desire to do more than govern, inspire and protect those particular aspects of existence. While he may be as important as any other lesser deity his actions are not necessarily of note in a game focused on combat or stories based on wars/fights/intrigue. |

Milli has had a lot of interactions with another god, Vanilli. The two were quite popular for a short time, until it was revealed they were lip-syncing.
LOL!!!
silverwolfer, check your PM, I sent you a link from the web.

Not that expensive, and you really can't find a much better source of info on the deities of the Realms than the 2E god books.
I'm not sure if you're confusing Mielikki with another deity, here... Mielikki is all about rangers, and has nothing to do with bards. Milil and Finder are the deities most closely associated with bards.
Milil has never really been in the spotlight, though, and I'm not recalling any specific post-ToT info on him. |

On a more serious note, have you consulted Faiths & Avatars and/or Faiths and Pantheons? |
