So am thinking of a sort of demi god, or like just barley a god like Hercules.

In my head I am thinking... half fey like thing, with butterfly wings, and a ranger class like motif. Human or elf size, not some small lil pixie.

Am thinking CG or CN, but very self absorbed unless it comes under whatever his/her domain may be. Am thinking maybe anti arcane, pro natural/divine magic. Yet he/she is falling from grace and losing power, not gaining it. They use to have more, but lost it.

Handful of supernatrual spell like abilities, that you would see a druid can do, but much more martial also doing the bow and arrow thing, while having at-will ability to charm humans and such .

I am NOT asking for you to write this out for me, but maybe throw some storyline or plot hooks at me, that I can sort mull over, and try and build a backstory for such a creature.

Some interesting suggestions can be found in the If you were to invent a deity for the realms scroll.

I am personally rather fond of Drognard - Demigod patron of Sages, Realmslore, Grumblers, and Sacred Trivia, although perhaps Ayrik - Questionable Exarch of Nothing In Particular is also worth mention.

I was also quite taken aback by the conspicuous lack of any god governing the sloshing portfolio of wine or booze within the Realms pantheons - even those disgustingly besotten little halfling vermin don't have one, which seems an odd oversight indeed - and the dwarves don't have a stout beer god at all, which is just plain wrong.

This description fits almost perfectly the 2e Monster Mythology's Oberon of the Seelie Court. I think the only diference is that he is a lesser god, not a demigod, but you could use his story, and only consider that he would be more aloof to mortal affairs or for another reason would have less followers in the Realms, as a way to justify having diminished power when comparing to other worlds.

EDIT: Read the description and Oberon really looks like a faerie of unusual size, but he lacks wings.

@Markustay: Yes I believe it was the Waynhim (or whatever they were called).

Another thought came to mind for this post. Aglarond had some ancient elven (fey?) deities. Most of them have been accounted for in Realmslore but perhaps yours could be one of their number. This would also mesh with the Rashemen idea above (it's fairly close and the Simbul once trained with the Witches of Rasheman).

Hmmm, what about this deity from the 2nd edition Fionnghuala (pronounced fin-ell-ah)? She doesn't have butterfly wings, but she is the goddess of swanmays, so she could have huge white wings. She was once a human ranger who defended the Seelie Court, and was rewarded with the feather that turned her into a faerie and gave her the ability to change into a swan. She then rose to demi-goddess status by duplicating her feather somehow and giving it to similarly aligned females and turning them into swanmays. She could easily be losing her status if there are individuals out who are specifically hunting the swanmays. She would have so little influence that it could easily be understood why most people have never heard of this goddess, making her passing (if needed) affect the entirety of the world little. If you want her anti-arcane, simply have it be that her swanmays are being hunted by arcanists because they're being used in some kind of experiments. Perhaps this has even turned her normally pleasant outlook "black", and her normally white wings are streaked with black feathers .

@Arcanomach - I haven't read the Thomas Covenant series since the 70's, but you are either referring to the Waynhim (sp?), which were the closest thing to Elves in that series (but far uglier), or the Forestal, of which I know of only one (that other Earthman who traveled to The Land). Forestal = a cross between an Ent (Treant) and wood giant.

I believe the old 2e books had druid kit along these lies. There may have even been a 3e PrC as well (I kinda recall a druid or ranger who had bark for skin).

As for the OP, I would think some sort of Archfey - something 'left behind' from an earlier time. Perhaps once a powerful god in the Fey/Elven pantheon, but now just a vestige of its former self; a 'guardian spirit' of one particular forest (or even grove). If its vain - which I gather - it could be very angry no-one pays it respect anymore.

I'd make it appear human/elven from a distance, but when you get up close you'd note some very unsettling 'insect-like' qualities (multifaceted eyes, perhaps small antenna, limbs that don't look quite right, etc). Some thing like the 4th guy in This Pic. (I know I seen something in one of the old MM's thats what I am thinking of - maybe PS or SJ).

Here is another pic that would probably be a good visual reference for you -thats closer to your original concept.

Nymph already Druid and gives you the size desired, make half blood and add other half winged fey.

Looking at basic list, you might even consider Pegasus for wing source. Also to reduce stunning beauty that a Nymph has that would be determent.

If this idea appeals at all or course some divine abilities would need to be added, levels etc. As half Nymph of course gender could be either.

Not much to go on in your OP but here are a couple ideas that come to mind:

1. I can't remember what they are called but in the Thomas Covenant series (Stephen R. Donaldson, HIGHLY recommended reading) there are groves tended by some type of spirit creature (or something, I really can't remember). They are very reclusive. These groves are safe harbors for the forest-friendly. Your deity could be a god/goddess of these groves with the spirit creatures being her species and dedicated followers. Over time, they have diminished in number. I'm thinking this is because they very seldom procreate with the added problem of your deity losing power. Or perhaps, in ancient times, your deity created these fey-spirits to tend these magical groves AND the spirits have died as your deity grows weaker.

2. Perhaps a deity of place spirits (such as those found in Rashemen, but I would have them placed throughout the Realms not just there). Your deity may have come into conflict with Malar or some other god and lost and is now in the process of dying slowly from his/her wounds. Mayhaps your god could be saved if they absorbed some of these place spirits but is loathe to do so. In order for this idea to work, though, other gods would have to have some reason not the help him/her or be unable to (as in confounded somehow) to cure their longtime friend and ally.

Well a pixie or fairy dragon might rise to demi status, I would look to the base creature and then level it up some. At least that is where I would look, to the Fae most are neutral or chaotic.
