Does anyone have any information about how to play a wild mage in a 3rd edition campaign? I can't seem to find any official information about 3rd edition wild mages anywhere.

I'm certainly no rules-expect Dracons, but I wouldn't mind seeing what you can come up with.

I have that book. Maybe I can make a 3rd edition version.

if I do, would anyone look at it and critque it for me?

I'm also sure that someone (or multiple someones) worked on an expanded table (based on a d1000 rather than a d100) that was included in a netbook in the nineties. I'm sure, because I have the table in my compilation files, and still use it, but I cannot remember the exact source anymore.

The table is actually available for download as an RTF. You can find the link here:

Yeah it was the Tome of Magic. I actually didn't like their table, so I came with my own. 8 of the actually. lol

I miss the gems shooting out at the caster.
I may download the 2nd ed book just
for the old wild surge results. Whick book
was that again?

I think SKR did a better job of capturing the 2E feel than the official 3E version did. I was very excited when Rich Baker commented to me that he was working on a 3E version (pretty sure it was him; it was years back), and then so disappointed when I actually saw it...

The wild mage remains one of my fave 2E classes. I played one for a little bit, and had much much fun with him.

Thx Hoondatha.

One of the previous writers for Wizards made a prestige class for
wild mages. Ill try and scare up my source.

Yeah, but it lost a lot of the flavor of the original (even though I only know it through the Baldur's Gate series).

Scroll resurrection!

I found these two links:
http://www.enworld.org/forum/d-d-legacy-house-rules/270492-wildmage-feat-9-wildmage-spells.html
And:
http://forums.obsidian.net/index.php?s=7e691cea28193fa6e3ba92e81c957769&showtopic=50395&st=15

Combined they would make a good wild mage.

And I wanted to ask: are any wild mages in the Realms known by name?
Dracandos the Spellsage Posted - 23 Jan 2004 : 00:51:21
aye i have that tome actually, i love the mongoose publishing books, especially the slayers guides. the best thing ive ever read, ever was the Slayers Guide to Undead
Knightcrawler Posted - 21 Jan 2004 : 18:12:07
After a quick search I found something. Mongoose Publishing has an Encyclopaedia Arcane called Chaos Magic that ssems to be as close to a wild mage as your going to get in current editions. Mongooses Encyclopaedia are usually excellent supplements.
Knightcrawler Posted - 21 Jan 2004 : 18:07:52
I have yet to run across any 3.0/3.5 books that have stats for Wild Mages as a class. Definitely nothing in any Realms product covers them. There might be a 3rd party product that has something on wild magic.
Dracandos the Spellsage Posted - 21 Jan 2004 : 01:17:51
ah thats true, BG2 was set in 2nd. idk about 3rd, but like i said, my RPG gaming sources r not very extensive, i am a buff
Belfar Posted - 21 Jan 2004 : 01:15:36
Well I've never played 2nd edition DnD, thats the rules that BG I and II use, but I'm more than positive that they had a wild mage. I just haven't seen anything about them in 3rd edition.
Dracandos the Spellsage Posted - 21 Jan 2004 : 01:05:43
i dont even play D&D, i wish i could but none of my friends like it. im just a FR buff. so, sorry no. the only thing i know of it is from BG2. i could tell u about wild magic, n how/why it exists but no, no info on how 2 work with it in playin D&D
