Posted - 18 Jan 2004 : 22:24:28 I was just wondering who had any interesting stories about unusual uses some players had for spells, and due to good etiquette, I will start :)
I was playing my first thief, when my party entered a cavern. I forget which monster was in there, but I had detected a falling cieling trap and was attempting to disable it, when the BIG critter showed up. Now, the DM brought along this thing for the sole purpose of trying to make us leave (We weren't supposed to be there yet...)
Now, as I'm trying to sneak around behind it, our resident mage uses her mage hand spell to push the trigger to the trap, and haing the ceiling fall and crush the critter...unfortunately, I was inside the ceiling area too...bye bye thief...
Anyway, The DM decided that due to the ceiling falling, they could not get enough of my body back for a ressurection...
I didn't really mind the crushing blow to my career as a thief, but that scenario just kind of stuck out in my mind. ------------------------------- OK, any others? |

Ehm... I must have... missed that part! |

Posted - 23 Jan 2004 : 08:36:05 Let me head off any further speculation with this: it's possible, and mentioned in the rules. Stone to flesh works even after pieces are broken off; no effect on the former petrified character happens if large pieces (I think it was pieces larger than a pebble) are replaced. However, your DM should have ruled that you needed a cure light wounds or something. |

Posted - 23 Jan 2004 : 00:41:06 ah now that is a perplexing ? using stone shape 2 refasten ur head 2 ur body seemingly would work. however, the flesh 2 stone spell says if delt any damage, it shatters 2 tiny pieces makin it impossible 2 bring back but i suppose if the head was cleanly cut off then refastened that part would work...now it seems that when u were turned back 2 flesh, u would come back ok. becuz i dont think u would die when ur head got cut off when u were a stone becuz when turned 2 stone, ur obviusly not alive. so i dont think u would die from that. wow, so yeah thats my explanation of y i think itd wor[^ |

Posted - 22 Jan 2004 : 13:56:49 Another small incident regarding this topic. as you all now probably know we (my group) still plays the good old 2nd ed.
Some years ago I was hit by a monster which turned me into stone, the other characters did not want to wander into the room the monster was in and desided to throw a lasso at me and pull me back out of the room. what happened was that when they started to pull the stone statue (me) it tiped over and my head fell of when it hit the floor.
after much difficulties they managed to pull both my head and my stone bodyback into safety. Then one of the magic users in the group used a stone shape to fasten my head back onto the stone body, then one of them used a stone to flesh and I was back in perfect shape
Now, would this be possible or would my body and soul die when i lost my head? or would it work as i discribed here?

Hmmm, indeed Forgotten One, I may have to introduce the scribes here to something called Copyright Infringement! |

Posted - 20 Jan 2004 : 00:44:51 ah now this was an amusing tale my fellow adventurers and i had a good laugh at the night of the day this occured. we had encountered a group of hill giants. as my companions dispatched of the group, the leader of the giants snarled as it looked at me. the beast picked up a giant bolder and hurled it at me, as a cool shade washed over me, i glared up at the huge chunk of stone that began to block out the sun as it fell down towards me. my companions called out my name in fear that i would be crushed by the leader of the hill giants, but i had something in mind. i began my casting and the battle itself ceased. as i looked above me i saw the bolder frozen in midair. like my companions and the giants, they to stood still in battle positions. i smirlked and casually walked out of the shadow the stone had created above me. i then began my casting of another spell. it was an altered Bigbys Grasping Hand, i used the spiritual hand to gather the hill giants and place them under the shadow of the bolder the leader had thrown at me. once i had finished rearanging the hill giants, the duration of the Timestop spell was nearly over, i had just enough time (isnt that ironic) to position myself to be face to face with the leader of the hill giants. once the spell had faded, and time caught up with me, the head giant frowned with confusion and then looked at me, i smiled and briefly glanced up. the creature then looked up as well and saw what was in store for him. i then took a few steps back to avoid the splatter of giant fluids from spraying on me and the bolder crushed the three hill giants. my companions had then reoriented themselves from the sudden disapearence of their opponents in front of them and saw what i had done, smiles formed on each of their faces and they comended me for my efforts. ah that was a glorious event. do u not agreem, my fellow scribes? |

Posted - 19 Jan 2004 : 18:17:03 A large Earth Elemental was charging at me and I had one chance to act before being trampled. So I cast ... Meld with Stone.
I think he stopped about 100 ft later confused. I then stepped out and got out of the way for the rest of the group to surround and destory him.

Posted - 19 Jan 2004 : 17:12:24 Well once we used a summoned horse to see if a deep dark cave was safe. Well several moments later the horse came running out with several puncture wounds and was in so much pain that it threw it self into a chasm to kill itself. We immediately knew what it was...stirges. So the wizard blindly sent in a 10ft wide lightening bolt in and eliminated about 75 percent of them. We killed the remaining off with out too much trouble. |

Posted - 19 Jan 2004 : 15:16:49 The vampire didn't die, due to his 10 levels in elemental savant(giving him immunity to fire). He wouldn't be that stupid. Unfortunately, the fly survived(due to the DM's interpretation of the shapeshift spell). |

Posted - 19 Jan 2004 : 12:56:06 Even more interesting question: What was moving inside that Vampire's head? ('cept for the fly). I mean like, who thinks "Hmm.... there's a fly inside my ear... I think I'll... CAST A METEOR STORM SPELL INSIDE MY OWN HEAD!!!"
And I though the vampires to the be 2.nd most dangerous undead creatures (after the Liches)... |

Posted - 19 Jan 2004 : 11:58:01 Once me and a character named Trueblade captured a zentarim general who had been killing, raping and torturing inocent people.
he was condemnd to death by the church of Helm or something. anyway they placed him in chains on this metal grating above a underground river. there was 4 priests standing in a circle around him, eatch one cast a flesh to stone spell until he got petryfied, then they cast a stone to mud, the mud poured into the river bellow the metal grating. no chance for him to be resurrected
