Posted - 18 Oct 2012 : 18:40:13 The 3e sourcebook Underdark, under the section on Kuo Toa relations with other races, describes an alliance between the Kuo Toa and Drow. The lengths to which the kuo toa welcome drow into their communities is extensive and I was surprised to read about it given the insular nature of kuo toa as outlined in other source materials. I looked at all of my 2e material on kuo toa and can't find anything about it.
Does anyone know of any other source that describes this relationship?
Thanks! |

Posted - 21 Oct 2012 : 04:15:03 I could see this happening with the Ghaunadaur-worshipping drow of Llurth Dreier. The kuo-toa serve the aboleth, the aboleth worship Ghaunadaur and there is some sort of relationship between the aboleth and the Llurth Dreier drow. As a result, the kuo-toa consider the drow to be allies. |

AFAIR, there were mentions of drow trading with kuo-toa back in 2e... |

Posted - 18 Oct 2012 : 20:32:02 So was I. In 2e, the two are enemies who often come to blows. However, the fact that they don't share each others' ideal territory means that the fighting is likely less intense than that between drow and non-amphibians.
That said, Eilserus's idea is as good as any. Though it's got to be a temporary thing; soon enough racial insanity, drow backstabbing, and just general competition for resources (slaves if nothing else) will set them back to fighting. This truce probably isn't working much better than the one Lloth declared over Liriel. |

Posted - 18 Oct 2012 : 20:11:46 A goddess with a lobster-head and hot body becoming friendly with folk who worship a giant spider with a beautiful head? Sounds like a match made in hell.
Now if they can just get the two to trade, we'd have one really hot goddess, and a lobster-headed spider. Sounds like a a party.
I hear in 5e the Kua-toans will enslave the Drow and ride them into battle as mounts....
... or not.
Amusing visual, though.
EDIT: To answer your question, NO, I was unaware of any such relationship. |

Posted - 18 Oct 2012 : 19:01:55 From what I understand in Underdark 3E, after the drow destroyed Sorath-Nu-Sum, kuo-toan priests received divine orders to open their communities to drow as allies. Considering how insane kuo-toa can be, I'm sure this can vary and not every kuo-toan town welcomes drow with arms open. I'd imagine most of the "welcome" involves trading. |
