Hello everyone,

I'll be RPing as a goblin in a coming session with some friends, and I really want to do an authentic job. He'll likely be a greedy, selfish and terribly insular character who's only goal is acquiring wealth and status for himself.

I've never played one of the monster races before, and I've been reading various wiki's for background on Goblins, their temperament, religions, society etc. But I was hoping to gain another perspective here and would welcome any and all information you feel like offering.

Thanks,
John

This sounds like a good majority of adventurers, no matter the race....

There was a novel I read that was released around 2000, called "the nether scroll". Don't quote me on the title. It primarily involved a group of adventurers recovering one of the nether scrolls from an alhoon with the help of a goblin they make a wary peace with. Interesting if you are planning on going the N or G route. Not a terribly good book overall as I recall.

Another good (free) resource is the We Be Goblins! adventure. It was Paizo's Free RPG Day book for 2010, and you can download the PDF for free. It details some of the stuff that you can find in Goblins of Golarion.

Goblins

The Goblin Song

Goblins chew and goblins bite,
Goblins cut and goblins fight,
Stab the dog and cut the horse,
Goblins eat and take by force!

Goblins race and goblins jump,
Goblins slash and goblins bump,
Burn the skin and mash the head,
Goblins here and you be dead!

Chase the baby, catch the pup,
Bonk the head to shut it up!
Bones be cracked, flesh be stewed,
We the goblins—you the food!

“Dark Mirror” by R.A. Salvatore is a short story in Realms of Valor anthology. The goblin Nojheim is a strong supporting actor for the story.

I would go with this option as well. It is relatively inexpensive and a fun read as well as informative about goblins in general.

Goblins have an atypical 'bully' mentality. If they think they have the upper hand, they will be violent and get whatever they can from you and out of you. If they feel they don't have the upper hand, they cower and beg for mercy. They are treacherous and cowardly.

The short story in the Realms of Infamy anthology, Vision, is written from a goblin's point of view, and could prove useful to you. Its pretty dark compared to most FR writings.

Currently playing as a gobiin aswell. Great roleplaying fun so far!

Goblins are usually involved in tribelife struggles. They seek to get 'honored' positions in their tribe. They have no concept of privacy or family, and only a tribal chief and its direct entourage get a personal haunt. The chief is usually feared so greatly that a goblin dares not speak to him directly. A common goblins life is a short, vicious and paranoid affair filled with violent pranks and vile pass times.

Goblins love to cause suffering, but can create great fondness for a special pet they choose to hold on to. The ability to control fire is held in great regard, as it can easily create a great deal of suffering. They love salted foods, and are able to eat nearly anything when it has been soaked in brine for a few days.

Goblins have short attention spans. They are prone to be attracted by shiny gems, sparking fires or good smells in the middle of a life and death combat. A goblin is cowerdly, so usually tries to maximise its chance of succes before a fight. They are excellent sneaks, that flee to hide at the least amounts of setbacks. Most of the time they fail to be observant enough to notice their sure defeat however.

Goblins hate they are so small, and try to get the better of the bigger races and their domesticated animals as much as they can. They hate (and fear) dwarves, dogs and horses the most of all.
