Posted - 26 Feb 2012 : 03:54:03 I decided I should do something special for my 2000th post, so I gathered all of my (and others') rather silly posts from Icelander's excellent (and otherwise serious) Realmsian zoological scroll Elephants (And lions and tigers and bears, oh my!) and collected them here... any animal you can think of that's sillier than a tressym belongs here. (And for the record, I don't find tressym to be all that silly; I quite like the idea of cats with butterfly wings... it fits their personality, after all.)

What's your take on Realmsian Heffalumps, then? And Tiggers, for that matter... or is Tigger a unique creature? For that matter, is the Heffalump a unique creature? Sorry; I'm feeling rather whimsical right now, because I'm tired and really need to go to sleep, but don't really want to do so... but I'll go now, before I get any sillier. Still, I am interested in what you have to say... the Tigger would have a "bounce" special attack, and a laugh that causes confusion on a failed Will save, but I'm not sure about the details for the Heffalump.

Oh... hang on... maybe the Heffalumps are the miniature elephants on Bulta... that would explain the mispronunciation...
Edit: In all seriousness, this is some awesome zoological lore... and I was only being half-silly about the Bultan heffalumps. It would fit...

The heffalump is a distant relative of the Sunffleupagus. Both can trace their ancestry back to the 'awakened' elephans of Ayfal.
Big Bird, on the other hand, was a very bad experiment by the Aeriee.
Tiggers originated when the Beastlands came into conjunction with the demi-plane of springs.

The demi-plane of springs... I may have to use that...

Oh... maybe it's just me, but I would have associated the Snuffleupagus with the wooly mammoths of the northeastern reaches of Kara-Tur, and Big Bird seems like something more Far-Realm-ish. But I think you're right on the mark with the Tigger origin... so how did they come to the Realms? Well, obviously, they bounced, but when? And all the way from the Beastlands? Or were they ejected when the Demi-Plane of Springs exploded due to internal pressure?
Wow! Post #2000! For a while, I wasn't sure if this would happen. I'm glad it did. |

Thanks, Fellfire.
Edit: I just thought of another one: What if the proverbial "grand poobah" is a corruption of the name of a far more dangerous beast: the dire Pooh bear? I don't quite know what to do with this one, except that it involves a substance called "hunny"... |

That would just be a Tressym/Faerie Dragon crossbreed or hybrid. =) Wait, maybe that belongs in the half-dragon scroll...
No, Hawkins, Tressym/Faerie Dragon crossbreeds fit into this scroll rather nicely... as do any exotic RW crossbreeds you can think of, such as tigons and ligers.
And I just had another amusing and horrific thought... how about a raccoon/badger hybrid? Or, more dangerous, a badger/wolverine hybrid?
Edit: Badgeroons? Badgerines? |

Good catch. The wings are feathered, aren't they?
Tressym wings are described as having feathers, yes.

They do kind of look like butterfly wings, I agree. But the illustration from the source you refer to above, as I recall, has feather plumes at the end of each wing, which is indicative of feathered wings. |

For some reason, my memory of the illustration from Haunted Halls of Eveningstar, where the tressym were introduced to 2E, has butterfly-like wings, and tressym aren't a species we've run into in my 3E gaming. This is what happens when one is severed from one's older gaming books for too long... I haven't had access to my pre-3E Realms material for more than a total of about six weeks in the last six years.
