AFAIK, there are no elans in the Realms, at least not in published lore.
Not in any published sourcebooks, but we do have Eytan Bernstein's working in his "Class Chronicles" series at Wizards. |

Posted - 28 Jan 2012 : 03:16:58 Well it also depends on which edition rule set you are using. *G* Asking which, (Min/Max) can produce the best as opposed to selecting any race for the poll. The tace stats and percentage that take it, including average level might give a better answer, alas the population stats always change. |

Posted - 28 Jan 2012 : 03:01:47 IMO, traditionally - Humans are more flexible overall, as usual, which gives an advantage in psionic learning too. Gith are cocktail of humans and whatnot with selection toward psionic abilities, so they should be in average much more psionically apt than humans. So if high-level Gith weren't eliminated, they would be. Illithids have advantage of "batteries" (mucous covering) and Int. So in psionic potential they are bigger fish than non-specialized creatures, but in everything else - mainly because they have a long tradition of such training. I.e. compared to psionic-rich human cultures or any Gith branch they only have more raw mental power, which can be offset by quantity. As long as the contest is far away from elder brains, naturally. Drow... it's probably better to keep with the trend where magically strong creatures have little psionic talent and vice versa, and these are most magically apt folk around. So, unlikely. |

Posted - 27 Jan 2012 : 20:20:29 Id go for the Githyanki in here, though my first impulse was to say Illicids, but it is tru that the fact the mind-flayers are less effective when isolated, and the planar-hopping Githyanki ability made me change my mind in here.... besides, I don't know much of the aboleth... |

Posted - 27 Jan 2012 : 19:47:46 AFAIK, there are no elans in the Realms, at least not in published lore. Githzerai might be more powerful than the illithids as a race, though I doubt it, but certainly not in the psionic department. I see both githzerais and githyankis as potent fighters, with access to the psionic art, but not powerful psions per se. |

Posted - 27 Jan 2012 : 14:26:20 humans, most powerful psionic races originate from them (mind flyers, avangions, elans, gith, kalashtar ...), they're the race of destiny and the future |

Posted - 27 Jan 2012 : 12:35:44 I would have to go with the aboleths albeit only those from the Sovereignity. |

Posted - 27 Jan 2012 : 10:19:20 Before I answer the question, I would have to eliminate from the picture the most powerful representatives of each psionic race (Vosthym, The Eldest, Ioualum (or some other elder brain), etc). Each of these beings has more than enough firepower to neutralize thousands of his enemies. So if I consider only the greater population of every psionic race composed mostly of "common folks," I would choose the Gith. |

Don't forget the duergar.
To answer your question, I'll go for the Elder Brains - who are part of the Mindflayers. |

Posted - 27 Jan 2012 : 08:07:17 I think Gith fit the psychic warrior class or the monk with tashalatorra from eberron. Their basic boosts to wis and dex make it so. |

Posted - 27 Jan 2012 : 07:39:15 You've got a point. I've always much preferred the flashier Githyanki. The 'zerai have always seemed to me like a shabby cousin that doesn't get invited to the party. |

I find it difficult to argue the point as so much of the Illithid lore we have is merely speculation. I am pretty certain if the Illithids were to do battle with the Gith races, without their fancy silver swords, necromancy and red dragons, strictly in the realm of the mind the 'Flayers would quickly and easily overwhelm their hated foes. Instead of debating that, I will offer up another race for consideration, the Thri Kreen.
Erm only the Githyanki have all of those. The Githzerai on the other hand, are happy to kick illithid butt with just their hands and feet, thank you very much.
Also why no Elan love haha? |

Certainly not Drow or Humans. I'd say Githyanki (or just the Gith race on the whole). |
Ayrik |
Posted - 27 Jan 2012 : 03:46:41 The Gith races, most certainly. Illithids are much less effective when isolated, and of course cannot use their mental powers to dance across the planes. |

Posted - 27 Jan 2012 : 03:36:18 Hmmm.
If the ability of one is measured against the calibre of his/her enemy... then I'd have to say the githyanki. Especially in their conflict with the Illithids. |

Posted - 27 Jan 2012 : 03:20:30 I have to say the Illithids probably take this contest. |
