Posted - 17 Oct 2011 : 20:51:18 Entreri3478, the book arrived. It was in very good condition - better than the pictures showed. You packaged it very securly as well. I'm very pleased with this transaction. I only wish that I needed more books for my collection.

Yep, and i would hope that WoTC has people check in at Candlekeep to see what we the customers like/dislike about their products |

Alright, that satisfies me. Sorry to fixate on this; we exist at WotC's sufferance, so there are areas we have to tread lightly. That's part of why we disallow discussions about obtaining material illegally.
There is so much wrong with that it isn't even funny. If you don't want people talking about illegal file sharing because it's illegal that's fine. But the idea that this site and this forum, which has been around since the internet, exists at the 'mercy' of Wizbro rankles me to no end. It's the same excuse used for not putting out another Compendium, and it still falls flat. Homebrew is Fair Use.
To be fair, I remember some of the horrible, draconian things that TSR used to do, killing fan-created material, media, and other things, back when the Internet was relatively new.
Hasbro/WotC isn't TSR, and there was a period of time when there was an open gaming license. But there's no OGL for anything in 4E, and we have to remember that any company can rightfully, legally act in order to protect it's intellectual property.
I'm not suggesting that they will act like a hammer, but it's also prudent to be careful when you're dealing with a corporation. Fair use extends only so far, and many current websites go more than a bit beyond fair use. Gratitude, rather than "screw the evil megacorp!" should be the first thought we have.
Just saying.

Mystic..even the word "Candlekeep" is property of WoTC. They could easily force a name change or worse if they so wished. |

I live in Turkey and am only 25 paperbacks short of the entire Forgotten Realms novel catalogue. Any ideas on how I can take advantage of this book store? =)
The store does not deal with online sales right now (strange). Do you have a list of the books you need? If so then send me a PM
That's very kind of you! I will send the list as soon as I get home =)
Hello again! Did you get the list i emailed to you?? |

Totally understandable, I promise i'm not boosting boxes of Realms books off the back of a truck.
I was more concerned about illegal e-books. As I said, I've recently seen someone with a bunch of old FR books in e-book format, claiming he was licensed to sell them. |

So this is a brick-and-mortar store, and not someone selling e-books and claiming to hold a license to do so? I've seen that a few times within the last month or so...
Legitimate physical location in Virginia selling books people trade in. Just wanted to share the treasure for fellow scribes hunting for those last few books to complete their Realms collections. |

Posted - 03 Oct 2011 : 16:47:46 My source is a book store that happens to have a rather large selection of books, including a fantastic selection of anything TSR/WOTC related. I assume they have all of their licenses up to date and pay their taxes like a good little book store should. |

Posted - 03 Oct 2011 : 16:11:59 It's been my experience that if one has to ask whether something is legal, then it's usually not.
Regardless, Wooly's point is the most valid stance for us here at Candlekeep. Until the legality issue is resolved, I'd rather this site not be involved in such transactions.

Wooly Rupert |
Posted - 03 Oct 2011 : 16:04:46 We need to know if it's legal. You're publicly offering this up, it needs to be legal. If it's not legal, we could come under fire from WotC for allowing it.
So I'm afraid that we need to have the legal question answered. If it's not answered, I'm going to assume it's not legal and act accordingly. |
