Posted - 01 Aug 2011 : 18:14:44 What origins could you imagine in the realms for Shard Minds and Wilden? Before and after the spellplague.
After the spellplague both could just have arisen from that event. The wilden arose from nature to defend it spontaneously like Nymphs or Dryads. Then shard minds maybe just from some crystal formation or a mutation caused by the spellplague. But that explanation for Shard Minds doesn't seem like the best to me. Do any of you have thoughts on better stories for their origins?
PS. I am referring to races that appeared in Player's Handbook 3. |

Posted - 01 Aug 2011 : 19:43:50 I would venture to say that Wilden have always been present in the Realms, lurking in the deep woods and as elusive and wild as Nymphs. Because of their excellent coloring and camouflage, most people don't even notice them. If people do, they're probably disregarded as Nymphs, dryads, or other woodland beings.
Shardminds, in my Realms, are Post-Spellplague creations of a manifestation between a Kiira and it's "host" (ie. the person wearing one). As the spellplague infused ther Kiira with strange magic, it became sentient with it's untold mysteries and bounded the living being inside. The manifestation took on a more humanoid form of a crystilized creature. |
