I refer to the place, not the website!

Posted - 14 Jul 2011 : 07:33:49 I did find this rather fascinating article about Candlekeep, but it's merely a distraction.
My most exacting perusal of older writings about Faerūn - namely my original prints of FR0, FRA, and FRCS - found little to be said about Candlekeep and no mention whatsoever of any particular glyph, sigil, merchant sign, map marker, or heraldric device representing Candlekeep to the world inside or outside its walls.
I can dimly recall some sort of tower-and-candelabra symbol, or castle-and-candle symbol of some sort, perhaps a castle-and-quill, although I cannot remember the source nor whether it was a canon or homebrew reference.
I wonder whether Candlekeep as an entity uses any identifying symbol, or if such a symbol is even uniform across differing periods in history. I suspect that many writings produced within Candlekeep are marked with the personal sigils of those scribes and monks and scholars and mages and sages who write them, or own them, or edit them ... perhaps even "anonymously" ... but I doubt that any system of uniform style, letterhead, indexing, and colour-coding is ever used with much success for very long. Candlekeep's librarianship seems more like an art than a science, it probably employs literally hundreds of different indexing systems to locate and retrieve data, and half of those probably exist only in the skillful familiarity the monks themselves have of the seemingly haphazard organization of knowledge.
Still, this is just my personal take on things. I agree this is a fine question to ask master Greenwood. |

Surprisingly, I think this is the first time someone asked about 'Keep's coat of arms.

Indeed.
I just performed a quick and untidy search through the archives, and nothing specification -- regarding a coat of arms for Candlekeep -- came up. |

Posted - 13 Jul 2011 : 18:44:19 I did a web search and at best found a fan based coat of arms offered, clearly not official.
I concur, ask Ed |
