I had a moment like this with my playgroup last week. I'm winding down a loooong running and high level game in the Cold Lands/Demonlands, and after the game session last week, talk turned to our new campaign. Since we've been in the Realms for years (both real and game) now, I had entertained running a game in Westeros (the setting for GRRM's Song of Ice and Fire) to keep my players interested. However, when I voiced this, there was silence around the table, followed by '... but there's so much of the Realms we haven't seen!'. I could have kissed my players then.

Well, I could ask for the live music and those women you mentioned, Fellfire.

Not only that, but Candlekeep occasionally makes me as close to giddy as I ever get, without live music and women. I absolutely love it when there is a good group of people here engaging in friendly, intelligent, spirited, productive discussion. It makes me smile. I had a good night here tonite. I learned, I laughed. What more could you ask for? Thanks CK! Thanks y'all. That goes for you too Sage, Wooly and of course, Big Al. Thanks for making it possible.

What I enjoy most is that my players have as much fun as I do when we game in the Realms. Not just my current group, but nearly every group I've DM'd for since the grey box came out.

What I especailly like is when my players take a piece of lore they have just been told, and they fit it in with other pieces that they've learned in early games, read in novels, or even learned under a different DM (I have several Living Realms players who regularly do the convention circuit).

It doesn't matter if I wanted/needed that piece of lore to connect to anything else - my players keep assembling the puzzle that is the Forgotten Realms. And as long as they're happy, I will enjoy the game as well.

Thanks to Ed, Steve, Julia, and everyone here at Candlekeep for making the Realms such an enjoyable place to spend an hour or two.

I started creating my own world inspired by FR (you know what I mean - we all have our own private 'wish lists' for the Realms as WE envision them), and every time I come up with another kewl idea I find myself adjusting it so that it would also work within the published Realms. This is completely unnecessary - and usually leads to much hair-pulling - but I can't help it.

If I can't get something to work within the Realms, then I have to re-evaluate it and decide if it is right for my own setting.

So besides being the greatest fantasy world ever created (IMHO), it is also the bar by which I set my standards. If it can't work in Ed's Realms, then there must be something intrinsically 'broken' about it; I have to discover the flaw in the logic and fix it, otherwise it doesn't go into my own world. Its almost as if the Forgotten Realms has become the equivalent of Physics in fantasy RPG settings - if you can't plug something into the equation, you have to check the math.

It's just THAT GOOD.

I got this feeling before every game. But for the Realms, no, closer to a dream-like state.

I have to agree. In every incarnation of the realms, there is A LOT of room to play in. With the vast history (much of which is neatly collected in The Grand History of the Realms) - that is a lot of untapped potential as well that can be played with in all sorts of mediums as well. There is just so much to do, and so much lore to be garnered, its never ending. I love it! Don't go away realms!

I share your feeling. I feel like I could play for decades in a single region without running out of material. Of course, I prefer to wander around, taking bits of lore there and there, than to stay in Cormyr from level 1 to 20.

I learn something new at every single quest I write, even from sourcebooks I've owned for years.

Thanks Ed!
