My good friend Andrew (a.k.a. Wulf Waters, here on the boards) runs the Faerun-RP website, a play-by-post roleplaying website devoted to stories told in the Forgotten Realms setting, and he's in the market for more members.

The site is unique among its peers in that it focuses not on mechanics or gameplay, but rather on STORY. What determines how effective your characters are in F-RP stories is your writing ability, not your strength with numbers or randomized die results. It's almost pure storytelling, where the DM and players work together to write what turns out to be a fantasy short story, novella, or even entire novel. Seriously, this is an EXCELLENT place to practice and hone your skills, and the people are extremely welcoming.

I highly recommend you go check it out, and see about getting involved. AFAIK, they have threads devoted both to the pre-Spellplague Forgotten Realms as well as the 4e FR, and no judgment about which you prefer.

Go there, and tell 'em I sent ya. :D

Cheers

So, we have been overrun with new members who have brilliant backgrounds in RPing, DMing and PbP D&D. We could use some experienced DMs now, particularly with regards to 4e. If anyone is interested in a position, please message me with your relevant experience and a link to an example of your previous writing (if you have one available).

Yes drow are allowed ... but we have a 'fade-to-black' policy on incest :p

We have a dedicated resource center which includes a language and style guide for writing. We've included basic spelling, grammar, punctuation and even a 'How to write a story guide' we ahem ... borrowed from Erik :p So if you are unsure about anything you can quickly check that out. Your english seems fine to me :)

Also, if any of you have questions regarding the site please message me or add me on msn, wulfwaters at hotmail dot com

As long as it's not a story of drow incest lol.

:laughs: I know the site is PG-13, so, unfortunately, I'll have to make do...

I've been writing a Realms fanfic in Polish for six years and it's being constantly improved. I love reading and writing both...
Role-playing via story is an excellent idea. Will head over as soon as my exams end. My English is (probably) good enough to write in, I've really considered translating my fanfic...

My word Erik! You've gone above and beyond once again! Thank you.

Anyone from CK is welcome to come and enjoy Freeform RP at the website above. I've rped with a few of you in the Candlekeep Inn, and it is a similar style to that, only the entire FR realm.

I would ask out of professional courtesy though that in joining us for adventures you do not neglect the Candlekeep forums.

In response to Erik's request we have been inundated with new members and need DMs. So Coach, DIffan ... if you guys are interested, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Wulf Waters

Well, I'm not an expert, but I believe your DM sets out boundaries of what you can and can't do. The idea isn't to achieve lots of cool things and get treasures, but rather tell a compelling and interesting story.

Your writing skills and cleverness are your dice--how well you impress your DM and audience determines whether you can pull things off.

I suggest you go check out a story thread or two, and you'll get the idea pretty quick.

Cheers

I wondered in the past about this kind of roleplaying. Although I can understand people enyoing to just want to create a good story together, I'm not sure how the game part of this is handeled or if there is really a game part at all.
Because if there are no mechanics whats stops me from writing (with more fluff of course) something like this about my character?
quote:

Than he went into warlocks crypt and demanded of Larloch his most powerfull artifacts handed over. The old lich was so shocked and terified by his stern expression that he complied without further resisting.

hehe this is great as that is how i DM, dice and rulebooks are very secondary in my FR, it's all about the story
